This gradual improvement in holder positioning reflects a market that is healing rather than deteriorating. Reduced unrealized losses mean fewer participants are under pressure to sell at a discount. As NUPL continues trending toward zero, the demand environment becomes progressively more favorable for Bitcoin’s next leg higher.

Bitcoin’s Liveliness metric has been declining for the past month, a development that has played a crucial role in supporting the current recovery. On March 17th, global payments giant Mastercard announced its acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure provider BVNK. The deal is valued at up to $1.8 billion, including $300 million in contingent payment terms. Mastercard expects to close the transaction by the end of this year, expanding its end-to-end support capabilities in digital assets and cross-currency value transfer.


The Value of a Sacrificed Asset: Coinbase's Hesitation and Mastercard's Decisiveness

BVNK was founded in 2021 and is headquartered in London. In May 2022, BVNK completed a $40 million Series A funding round, reaching a post-money valuation of $340 million. Two years later, in December 2024, it completed a $50 million Series B funding round, raising its valuation to approximately $750 million.

 BVNK is led by three South African founders: CEO Jesse Hemson-Struthers (a serial entrepreneur who previously founded e-commerce and gaming companies acquired by Naspers and Sportradar respectively), CTO Donald Jackson (a blockchain and enterprise systems expert), and CBO Chris Harmse (a CFA charterholder and former partner at a macro/crypto fund, specializing in foreign exchange and cross-border payments).

This startup has quietly woven a vast crypto asset settlement network.

Currently, the platform processes approximately $25-30 billion in stablecoin payment transactions annually. It provides businesses with a seamless channel between fiat currencies and stablecoins, supporting payment activities across major blockchain networks in over 130 countries and regions worldwide.

Bitcoin treasury firm Strategy has just revealed a new acquisition involving 22,337 BTC, making it the fifth-largest purchase ever by the company.

Strategy Has Expanded Bitcoin Treasury With Another $1.57 Billion Buy
In a new post on X, Strategy co-founder and chairman Michael Saylor has shared the details related to the latest Bitcoin acquisition completed by the treasury company. This buy saw the addition of 22,337 BTC to Strategy’s reserves, which is one of the largest purchases ever made by the firm.

The last time that the company made a larger buy was all the way back in November 2024, when it added 55,500 BTC in one swoop. That same month actually also saw two other purchases larger than the latest one, involving 51,780 and 27,200 tokens. Finally, there was also a larger acquisition of 29,646 BTC in 2020, meaning that the new buy is the fifth largest on record.

In US dollar terms, the purchase cost Strategy $70,194 per token or $1.57 billion in total. While its the fifth largest buy in BTC denomination, it’s only the ninth largest in the USD. The difference is due to the company having to spend more on some smaller stacks as a consequence of a higher BTCUSD rate at the time.

As is tradition, Saylor teased the new buy in a Sunday X post, this time sharing the company’s Bitcoin portfolio tracker with the caption “Stretch the Orange Dots.”

According to the filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Strategy funded this new acquisition using proceeds from its STRC and MSTR at-the-market (ATM) stock offerings. The purchase has now taken the firm’s total holdings to 761,068 BTC, equivalent to about 3.8% of the cryptocurrency’s supply in circulation.
