Why is XRP now in the red after 50% surge in a week?$XRP is down 2.2% over 24 hours after climbing 49.4% over seven days, putting the token back in negative territory after a strong week.

The drop comes as crypto traders watch the payments business around $XRP change, as large banks keep rolling out blockchain systems aimed directly at the pre-funding problem. JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) is doing that through Kinexys.

In June, JPMorgan expanded Blockchain Deposit Accounts to eight currencies: USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, HKD, JPY, RMB and SGD. Customers can move those balances around the clock and swap supported currencies onchain.

A company holding dollars can receive yen without first buying a separate crypto asset to bridge the trade. JPMorgan can set the FX price, exchange the currencies and log settlement on its blockchain immediately.

Citigroup (NYSE: C)’s 24/7 USD Clearing network reaches more than 250 banks across 40-plus markets. Citi Token Services also moves tokenized commercial-bank deposits using blockchain infrastructure. Citi says combining both systems lets institutions make overseas payments quickly while needing less money parked in advance.

Real-Time Liquidity Sharing can also process payments without making banks fund each account ahead of time. Ninety seconds is still slower than the $XRP Ledger’s three-to-five-second settlement range. But companies may care more about using cash already inside a regulated bank than routing the payment through $XRP.

Investigators converted months of cryptocurrency data analysis into actionable leads during the Operation Lighthouse sprint, announced Aug. 25 by blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis.

Chainalysis described its operation targeting child sexual abuse material (CSAM):

“Operation Lighthouse investigated 29,120 cryptocurrency addresses and digital identifiers, and targeted more than 100 distinct CSAM platforms, forums, and distribution networks across the surface web and dark web.”

Public blockchains maintain transaction histories that investigators can follow between cryptocurrency addresses, although an address does not independently reveal its owner. The public nature of bitcoin transactions allows investigators to map fund movements before combining that activity with exchange records, payment data, and law enforcement evidence to identify account holders.

The National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance hosted the sprint in New York, bringing together investigators from several continents. At least nine law enforcement agencies, more than 13 private-sector partners, and specialized nonprofits participated, including Europol, the Australian Federal Police, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency.

Secretary of State Bob Evnen’s office confirmed on Friday that the Online Sports Wagering Authorization Constitutional Amendment and the Online Sports Wagering Regulation Initiative had both qualified for the Nov. 3 ballot. Because they run separately, the state could authorize online wagering while rejecting the framework meant to govern it, or the reverse.

Tax Relief Nebraska submitted more than 201,000 signatures for the amendment and roughly 146,000 for the initiative on Friday, June 26, ahead of a July 2 deadline. The Nebraska Examiner reported at the time that the amendment needed roughly 126,000 valid signatures and the initiative about 88,000.

The campaign is funded by the operators who would run the market. Filings with the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission show Fanduel and Draftkings each contributed around $3.5 million. Lynne McNally, director of government relations for WarHorse casino, the in-state backer, told the Nebraska Examiner that WarHorse had contracted with Fanduel, Draftkings and MGM to operate under a framework voters have not yet approved.

Those operators are already competing against a channel that needs no ballot measure. Kalshi and Polymarket offer sports contracts nationwide as exchanges registered with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and Nebraska is not among the states that have sued them or issued cease-and-desist orders. Their products are available in the state now, while the wagering measures are still in campaign mode.

The statutory measure would direct 70% of gambling tax revenue to property tax credits, the same share casinos pay, and a report commissioned by Tax Relief Nebraska put the yield at just under $87 million over five years.

The widely watched Crypto Fear & Greed Index reached 74 on Tuesday, up from 27 on Aug. 12, before easing to 65 on Wednesday. It spent every day from late July through Aug. 19 in fear territory, dipping to 25 on Aug. 6, which the index classifies as “extreme fear.”

The gauge scores market mood from zero to 100 by blending bitcoin's volatility and trading momentum — which carry most of the weight — with social media activity, bitcoin's share of total crypto value and Google search interest. Anything above 50 counts as greed.

As such, it measures what traders are doing now rather than forecasting what happens next.

Data shows the index last sat this high on Oct. 5, 2025, five days before the crash that forced roughly $19 billion of leveraged positions to close in a single session, still the largest such event on record.

The shift in sentiment has come with gains across the market. Bitcoin climbed from below $68,000 last week to nearly $80,000, while some major tokens added as much as 70% as traders turned back toward the so-called debasement trade after months in which speculative attention had been dominated by AI, memory chips and semiconductor stocks.
