Bitcoin may be trading above what some investors expected this year, but according to Charles Schwab's Head of Crypto Research, Jim Ferraioli, its "fair value" could actually be closer to $95,000.

Ferraioli said his valuation is based primarily on Bitcoin's mining economics, rather than short-term market sentiment.

"If you were to say what's the fair value for Bitcoin at these levels, I think it's probably about $95,000." He said.

He explained that the most efficient Bitcoin miners currently produce BTC at a cost of around $60,000, while less efficient miners are closer to $95,000. Drawing a comparison with traditional commodity markets, Ferraioli said that producers generally operate on relatively thin margins, making production costs a useful benchmark for estimating fair value.

Notably, the lower mining-cost estimate of around $60,000 represents a potential fundamental support zone. This level also lines up with Bitcoin's 200-week moving average, which has recently been around the $60,000-$62,000 range.

He also clarified that the figure isn't a price target, but rather a valuation based on the economics of Bitcoin production.

Ferraioli pointed out that the crypto market is currently in a seasonally weaker period, often referred to as "Bitcoin winter." However, he added that risk assets have historically performed better toward the end of the year

Core Scientific lands AMD AI deal as bitcoin mining operation winds down

Data center operator Core Scientific (CORZ) announced an infrastructure partnership with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) anchored by 15-year leases for 529 megawatts of U.S. AI capacity, which the company said could generate more than $14 billion in base contracted revenue.

The capacity is expected to support AMD customer deployments beginning in 2027. The agreements give AMD, under certain conditions, the right to reserve another 1,925 MW through Dec. 28, 2028, potentially expanding the partnership to roughly 2.5 gigawatts.

Core Scientific Adds More Bitcoin To Balance Sheet in Q2 Despite Selling Strategy

While the publicly-traded miner's holdings have shrunk overall this year, the company has quickly added more Bitcoin to its balance sheet the past quarter.
Nasdaq-listed miner Core Scientific is rebuilding its Bitcoin treasury after seeing its balance sheet shrink at the start of this year. 

In a regulatory filing Tuesday, the miner said it had a total of 848 Bitcoins — worth over $54 million at today’s prices — after finishing the first quarter of this year with 547 Bitcoins. 

Core Scientific finished 2025 with 2,537 but started aggressively selling coins to fund its transition to the AI and high-powered computing industry. 

But the miner has started stacking Bitcoin again, using coins from mining, in order to have a strong balance sheet. It added 301 coins this quarter alone. 

Selling Bitcoins can reduce reliance on equity issuance or additional borrowing, especially in a higher-interest rate environment. It also gives a company more cash on hand.

Core Scientific shares (CORZ) were trading about 2% lower Tuesday afternoon in New York. 

The company, which operates data centers across Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas, added that its revenue in the second quarter of this year rose sharply to $164.2 million from $78.6 million in Q2 2025. 

Gross profit rose to $70 million from $5 million in the same period as the year before. 

Core Scientific is one of a number of top publicly listed miners that have started directing resources to providing the infrastructure for high-powered computing.

On Tuesday, the miner signed a deal with chipmaker AMD for 2.5 gigawatts ‌of data center capacity. The deal will give AMD access to more than 500 megawatts of Core Scientific’s AI-ready ‌data ⁠center capacity.
