Goldman Sachs Joins Bitcoin ETF Race After Dominating XRP Market

On April 14, Goldman Sachs, the 7th-largest asset manager in the world with $3.65 trillion in Assets Under Supervision (AUM), filed for a Bitcoin ETF with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Goldman Sachs seeks Bitcoin ETF approval

Known as the Goldman Sachs Bitcoin Premium Income ETF, the product focuses on generating a stable yield to appeal to its older investors, hence the nickname “boomer candy.”

Rather than purchasing Bitcoin, Goldman Sachs will invest at least 80% of its assets in spot Bitcoin ETPs and other Bitcoin-linked products, such as options and indices. The fund will also generate monthly dividends for investors by selling Bitcoin call options.

While these features guarantee a steady income and provide a cushion against market volatility, their downside is that they limit the profits the company could generate during a $BTC rally.

Following a typical 75-day SEC review period, analysts estimate the ETF could launch in late June 2026.

Visa, Stripe and Zodia by Standard Chartered are notable early additions for Tempo as it begins to build out its validator set.

Tempo recently launched on mainnet alongside an agentic payments protocol designed to enable transactions by software agents.

Institutional payments heavyweights Visa and Stripe, along with Zodia Custody by Standard Chartered, have signed on as early validators for Tempo as it begins to expand beyond its initial small circle of operators.

Validators run the infrastructure that verifies, orders and finalizes transactions onchain — a role that lends itself to established, well-capitalized institutions capable of operating global, always-on systems. The new entrants fit the bill, collectively processing trillions of dollars of payments each year.

"Tempo is building payments infrastructure the way we think about it at Visa, purpose-built for moving value at scale," said Cuy Sheffield, Visa's head of crypto.

"Visa has spent decades running one of the world's most resilient payment networks, with globally distributed data centers, built‑in redundancy, and network‑level defenses that block tens of millions of attacks and billions in fraud every year. Bringing that operational rigor to Tempo's validator set is a natural next step as stablecoin payments scale," Sheffield added.

Tempo is an Ethereum-compatible Layer 1 built for high-throughput payments and stablecoin settlement, particularly among larger institutions.

The project was incubated by Stripe and Paradigm, and launched on private testnet in September.

The firm was valued at roughly $5 billion following a $500 million Series A in October, with backing from investors including Sequoia Capital, Ribbit Capital and SV Angel.

Bitcoin Whales Ramp Up Accumulation: Holdings Hit 2-Month High

Bitcoin has approached $75,000 as on-chain data shows the whale-sized investors have pushed their supply to the highest point since mid-February.

Bitcoin Whale Holdings Have Crossed 4.25 Million $BTC

In a new post on X, on-chain analytics firm Santiment has talked about the latest trend in the Bitcoin whale supply. “Whales” typically refer to investors holding between 1,000 and 10,000 tokens of the cryptocurrency.

At the current exchange rate, this range converts to $74.5 million at the lower end and $745 million at the upper end. Thus, the only holders who would qualify for the cohort would be those with a substantial amount of capital invested in the asset.

Given their massive size, whale entities can hold some degree of influence in the market. As such, their behavior can often be worth keeping an eye on. Below is the chart shared by Santiment that shows the data for the combined supply held by investors of this size, which can act as a proxy for their behavior.

From the graph, it’s visible that the Bitcoin whale supply witnessed a decline earlier, indicating large investors were participating in distribution. Since bottoming out in mid-March, however, the metric has seen an upward reversal.

The uptrend accelerated during this weekend, with whale-sized wallets scooping up 27,652 $BTC (worth more than $2 billion) on Sunday alone. The fresh accumulation has meant that the whale supply has returned to 4.25 million $BTC, which is the highest value of the metric since mid-February.

A Bitcoin rally back toward the $75,000 level has followed the whale expansion, so it’s possible that buying from these humongous investors helped provide fuel for the surge.
