Volo Protocol lost $3.5 million from three Sui-based vaults on April 21, 2026, following a compromised admin private key.

GoPlus Security and ExVul confirmed a privileged operator key breach, not a flaw in Volo’s audited smart contracts.

Volo blocked the attacker’s 19.6 WBTC bridge attempt and is absorbing all losses, with vaults frozen pending post-mortem.

The attack drained three vaults holding wrapped bitcoin (WBTC), tokenized gold asset XAUm from Matrixdock, and USDC. Independent breakdowns placed the losses at approximately $2.1 million in WBTC, $0.9 million in XAUm, and $0.5 million in USDC. The remaining vaults, representing roughly $28 million in total value locked, were not affected and showed no shared vulnerability.Volo’s team detected the breach quickly. The team froze all vaults, notified the Sui Foundation, and began working with onchain investigators and ecosystem partners to trace and recover the stolen funds.

In a post on X, Volo stated it would absorb the full loss without passing costs to depositors. “Volo is prepared to absorb this loss. We will do our best not to pass this to our users,” the team wrote. A full post-mortem was promised once the investigation concludes.

“We are in damage control mode now, but once that’s done, we will work out a remediation plan, and a full breakdown will be shared shortly,” the team added.

Within 30 minutes of the initial announcement, Volo reported freezing approximately $500,000 of the stolen assets through collaboration with ecosystem partners. The following day, on April 22, the team confirmed it had intercepted and blocked the attacker’s attempt to bridge out 19.6 WBTC, worth approximately $2.1 million. Those funds are no longer under the attacker’s control.

Bitcoin climbs to $77,500 on Trump ceasefire extension, Strategy's $2.5 billion buy

Bitcoin is breaking out of the Iran-headline chop.

Bitcoin traded at $77,541 on Wednesday morning, up 2.2% over 24 hours and 4.3% on the week, after Trump said he would extend the Iran ceasefire indefinitely and Strategy disclosed the purchase of 34,164 $BTC for $2.54 billion. Ether rose 2.1% to $2,366, BNB climbed 1.3% to $640, and Solana gained 1.8% to $87. The only red in the top 10 was a trickle of 0.1% declines in stablecoins and Tron.

S&P 500 futures rose 0.5% and Nasdaq 100 futures gained 0.6% after Trump's extension, though the underlying benchmarks closed lower Tuesday as talks briefly wobbled. Brent crude hovered near $98 a barrel. The MSCI Asia Pacific Index slipped 0.7% as investors weighed how long the Middle East conflict runs.

Trump blamed negotiation collapses on what he called a "seriously fractured" leadership structure in Tehran, and said the US would hold off on fresh attacks while keeping its Strait of Hormuz blockade in place.

Strategy's buy is the largest bitcoin purchase by the company since November 2024. The 34,164 $BTC acquisition at an average $74,395 per coin brings the firm's holdings to 815,061 $BTC, bought for $61.6 billion at an average cost basis of $75,527. With bitcoin at $77,541, the position is now modestly in profit for the first time in months.

Spot flows back the move. Global crypto funds pulled in $1.4 billion last week according to CoinShares, the strongest week of inflows since mid-January. Bitcoin took $1.12 billion, Ethereum $328 million, Chainlink $5 million, and Sui $2 million. XRP saw $56 million in outflows and Solana $2 million, despite both trading higher on price.

Strategy Now Holds $62 Billion in Bitcoin—These Are Its Biggest BTC Buys

Software firm turned Bitcoin treasury company Strategy has been buying $BTC for more than five years, pioneering the growing trend of publicly traded firms that are adding cryptocurrencies to their balance sheets.

What started as a way to "maximize long-term value for shareholders” has transformed into an industry-shifting paradigm that has been further fueled by greater entwinement of traditional financial markets and crypto.

Along the way, Strategy has accumulated 815,061 $BTC, or nearly 3.9% of the fixed 21 million total Bitcoin supply—a stash worth nearly $62 billion at today’s Bitcoin price above $75,000.

Regardless of how high Bitcoin’s price goes, though, Strategy co-founder and Executive Chairman Michael Saylor has committed to “buying the top forever,” pulling up the firm's average entry price to over $75,500 per Bitcoin—over seven times the average cost of the firm’s first Bitcoin purchase.

Below, we look back at Strategy’s seven largest Bitcoin purchases to date and their immediate impacts on the price of Bitcoin, marked from the time of Saylor’s announcements via social media.

Michael Saylor announced Strategy’s largest-ever purchase of Bitcoin, by both $BTC and USD denominations, on November 25 in 2024. The purchase of 55,500 Bitcoin surpassed its previous top acquisition by more than $800 million.

In the hours after the Saylor announcement, Bitcoin dropped by about $4,000 to under $94,000, a 4% decrease from the average price paid by Strategy.
