Iran's Friday announcement that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened during the current ceasefire triggered one of the sharpest oil reversals of the year.

Brent crude fell 12.95% to $86.52, and WTI dropped 14.26% to $81.19, both their lowest levels since Mar. 11 and the largest single-day declines since Apr. 8. US stocks surged, bond yields dropped, the dollar weakened, and Bitcoin registered an intraday high of $78,336.

Traders stripped the war premium they had spent weeks layering into crude prices, and risk assets repriced accordingly.

Yesterday, the Strait was opened on Iranian terms. Commercial vessels required authorization from Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization and the IRGC and had to transit through Iran-designated safe lanes, but the US blockade on Iranian shipping remains fully in place until a broader diplomatic settlement.

That window has already narrowed. As of Apr. 18, Iran said it had closed the Strait again after the US left its blockade in place, pushing the market back into a countdown toward the Apr. 22 ceasefire deadline.

Only eight oil and gas tankers moved during the reopening, underscoring how far the route remains from anything resembling normal traffic.

Cardano recently completed a golden cross on its three-hour chart, but the timing of the appearance raises questions in the market.

On the three-hour chart, the 50 MA has risen above the 200 MA, forming a golden cross, the first of such in April.

However, the appearance of the golden cross coincides with a drop in the broader crypto markets, which have seen $254 million worth of positions liquidated in a 24-hour time frame. Long positions or traders who were anticipating further price increases accounted for the majority of this figure, at $180 million, while short liquidations came in at $74 million.

Cardano fell for two straight days toward the weekend, and is currently down 1.04% in the last 24 hours to $0.2496. The cryptocurrency is up 4.80% in the last seven days as it extended a recovery from a low of $0.236 on April 13.

Bull trap or setup?

The derivatives market shows traders remain largely defensive. Funding rates for perpetual futures contracts, a key measure of whether leveraged traders are betting on higher or lower prices, stay negative across most crypto assets.

Cardano has been oscillating between the daily MA 50 at $0.257 and the $0.23 support for the past few days.

The cryptocurrency has been in a larger range between $0.22 and $0.3 since early February. At the moment, Cardano faces a key test at the daily MA 50 after several attempts to breach this level failed in April.

On April 7, 8, 16 and 17, Cardano attempted to surpass this level but retreated afterward. $ADA rose to a high of $0.264 on April 17 in one of such attempts but retreated afterward.

According to co-founder Da Hongfei, around 85% of the project’s assets were managed by fellow co-founder Erik Zhang using a single-signature wallet, without multisig protection or formal institutional safeguards. He described this structure as unusual for a project of this scale.
The crypto holdings in question, mainly in $NEO and $GAS tokens, are estimated to be worth between $200 million and $250 million—ironically exceeding Neo’s current market capitalization of around $197 million.
The disagreement between the two founders has now escalated into a public governance conflict. Both sides have exchanged accusations and proposed very different visions for the project’s future.
Da Hongfei has put forward a restructuring plan that includes moving the Neo Foundation from Singapore to the Cayman Islands, replacing founder-led control with an independent five-member board, and temporarily barring both founders from board participation for two years. His proposal also suggests redistributing a portion of tokens back to holders to improve decentralization.
In contrast, Erik Zhang’s counter-proposal argues for keeping the foundation in Singapore and maintaining current governance structures. He has also called for a formal investigation into past asset management, raising concerns about potential misuse or lack of transparency.
Da rejected these allegations, calling them “baseless and unfounded,” and tensions between the two founders have continued to escalate publicly since December.

This strong squeeze is a major signal that the market is too one-sided at the time. We saw similar spikes in liquidations (but on the long side) last year, back when prices started to decline sharply.

Virtually every day, over $1 billion worth of longs evaporated as the price of BTC progressively dropped from its all-time high, and then after it crossed the $100,000 mark.

When even tiny moves manage to move the futures market this much, this increases the odds of a squeeze. We have been keeping an eye on key levels for BTC for weeks, like the $78,000 resistance.
