Warren claims SEC’s Atkins likely misled Congress over enforcement data



US Senator Elizabeth Warren has accused Paul Atkins, the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission, of possibly lying to Congress about the agency’s enforcement numbers.

Warren, the top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, said in a letter to Atkins dated Wednesday that the SEC’s enforcement data for fiscal year 2025, released on April 7, raised “significant concerns” about his answers at a Feb. 12 congressional hearing.

“At the hearing, I specifically asked you to comment on publicly available data highlighting a decline in SEC enforcement activity,” Warren said. “In response, you demurred, stating that you were ‘not sure what data’ I was looking at.”

“Now, it is clear that my assertion regarding the SEC’s declining enforcement actions was correct: the data you released last week show that the number of enforcement actions initiated by the SEC was lower than at any point in the last decade,” she added.

The SEC has rolled back its enforcement against crypto companies under the Trump administration, settling or dismissing crypto-related lawsuits the agency launched under the Biden administration, garnering criticisms from some lawmakers.

Warren said the SEC’s enforcement data was “deeply disturbing” and showed it had “largely abdicated its enforcement responsibilities” as the agency’s enforcement activity had dropped to the lowest level in more than 20 years.

She told Atkins that, in light of the data, his answers at the hearing in February “were deeply troubling and raise concerns that you may have been deliberately trying to mislead the Committee about the state of SEC enforcement.”

Bittensor Price Faces Correction After Soaring Past $265

On April 17, Bittensor ($TAO) price witnessed an upward momentum with a surge of 7% on a daily chart following a rally in the Bitcoin ($BTC) price, but failed to hold its position and faced a quick correction on the daily chart.

On Friday, the overall crypto market sparked a bullish sentiment in the market, which helped most altcoins to gain a spike. The main reason behind the rally in the crypto market is the major development in peace talks between the U.S. and Iran. Apart from this, recently, artificial intelligence-related tokens have also attracted the attention of investors due to their real utility.

At the time of writing, Bittensor ($TAO) is trading at around $252.30 with a market capitalization of around $2.82 billion, according to CoinMarketCap. The daily trading volume also jumped by 37% in the last 24 hours and is currently revolving around $396.22 million.

According to the current price chart, the surge in the cryptocurrency came after a bounce from a major Fibonacci support level. This bounce was also supported by a 41% surge in trading volume.

Stripe doubles down on blockchain and stablecoins, aiming to become 'AWS for money'


Global payments giant Stripe is building what it calls the "AWS for money," and crypto tech is at the center of that plan.

Speaking at the RWA Summit in Cannes, France, Adrien Duchâteau, Stripe's head of crypto go-to-market, said the company is now integrating stablecoins and blockchain across its core payment stack as it looks to modernize how money moves globally.

"We’re putting product by product more of our stack onchain," he said.

The move builds on the firm's long, if uneven, history with crypto. Stripe was one of the earliest major tech companies to embrace bitcoin , enabling BTC payments as early as 2014 before pulling back in 2018 as volatility made it impractical for merchants, Duchâteau said. The company returned in 2021 with a dedicated crypto team, betting that the underlying technology had matured enough to support real-world use, he added.

Speeding up payments with stablecoins

The company's blockchain ambition focuses on fixing a core problem: global payments remain slow and expensive. Cross-border transfers, Duchâteau explained, still rely on systems like SWIFT, which can take days to settle. For platforms paying creators or contractors, that delay often dictates payout schedules.

Stripe processes nearly $2 trillion in annual payments — roughly 2% of the global GDP — and serves over 5 million businesses around the globe, so even incremental improvements to settlement could have wide-reaching effects, he said.

"We’re operating in T+3 networks," he said, meaning that a transaction often takes three days from the moment of payment to settlement. "If you reduce that to zero, that is a magnitude of change."
