Recent on-chain data shows a sharp and unusual increase in activity on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), with transaction volumes and payment throughput rising significantly in a short period. In some cases, daily activity reportedly spiked by hundreds of percent, while overall usage has climbed into the multi-million transaction range.
Despite this surge, XRP’s price has remained largely unchanged, creating a noticeable disconnect between network activity and market valuation.
Network Activity Hits New Levels
XRPL is currently processing close to 3 million transactions per day during peak periods, marking a significant increase compared to previous months. Payment volume has also accelerated rapidly, suggesting stronger usage of the network’s underlying infrastructure.
On-chain data indicates that payments now account for a substantial portion of total network activity, at times exceeding 50% of all transactions.
What Is Driving the Spike?
Analysts suggest that the surge is not purely driven by retail speculation. Instead, it likely reflects broader infrastructure-level usage, including:
Cross-border payments and remittance flows
Stablecoin activity (including RLUSD transfers)
Automated trading and bot-driven activity on the XRPL DEX
Tokenized asset transfers and liquidity routing
This suggests XRPL is increasingly being used as a transaction and settlement layer rather than purely a speculative trading network.
Not All Activity Equals Demand
A key nuance is that not all transactions represent organic demand. A portion of the increased volume may be driven by algorithmic trading, market-making strategies, and bot activity—particularly on the decentralized exchange (DEX).

The American Bankers Association (ABA) has raised fresh concerns over the growing debate around stablecoin yields, warning that allowing interest-bearing stablecoins could trigger significant deposit outflows from the traditional banking system.
Concerns Over Deposit Flight
In its latest statement, the ABA pushed back against a recent White House-backed study that suggested restrictions on stablecoin yields would have only a limited impact on bank lending.
Instead, the banking group argues that the real risk is not marginal changes in lending, but a structural shift in where deposits are held. According to the ABA, higher-yielding stablecoins could encourage both households and businesses to move funds out of traditional bank accounts and into digital assets.
Community Banks at Greater Risk
A key concern highlighted by researchers is the potential impact on smaller, community-based banks. Even if total liquidity in the financial system remains stable, capital could shift away from local lenders toward larger financial institutions or crypto platforms.
This shift could result in:
Higher funding costs for community banks
Reduced lending capacity in local economies
Tighter credit conditions for small businesses and households
The ABA warned that this represents a “live policy issue,” particularly for regional banks that rely heavily on stable retail deposits.
Regulatory Debate Intensifies
The issue has now become a central topic in ongoing discussions around a U.S. Senate crypto regulatory bill. One of the main points of contention is whether stablecoin issuers should be allowed to offer yield to users.
Traditional banking groups are pushing for strict limitations, while crypto industry leaders argue that yield-bearing stablecoins simply create a more competitive financial system.
