Right now, XRP doesn’t really look neutral—it’s still in a clear downtrend. The price is trading below the 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day moving averages, and all of them are pointing downward. That kind of structure usually signals that the market hasn’t truly found a bottom yet.
Volume tells a similar story. There was a spike during the selloff, but after that, activity faded. That’s not what you typically see during accumulation—it looks more like a slow, controlled downtrend rather than strong buying interest stepping in.
The $1.30 level is currently doing most of the work. Buyers are defending it, but the strength behind those defenses is still questionable. It’s more about preventing further downside than pushing the price higher.
If XRP manages to reclaim $1.50 and hold above it, that would be the first real sign that momentum is shifting. Until that happens, any upward moves are more likely just relief bounces inside a broader downtrend.
On the downside, if $1.30 breaks, the structure weakens quickly. There isn’t much strong support below that zone, which could open the door to a faster drop.
On-chain data adds more weight to this picture. A large portion of holders are currently underwater, and metrics like MVRV are sitting at levels typically seen during periods of market stress. That usually reflects weak momentum rather than an imminent reversal.
Overall, XRP is already down roughly 30% over the past year, so this isn’t just a short correction—it’s a longer downtrend that still hasn’t shown a convincing reversal signal.
In short, the market is tightening, but still leaning bearish. Until the structure changes, continuation of the trend remains more likely than a sudden recovery.

As markets brace for Monday volatility, crypto faces a critical test of conviction versus macro pressure.

Analysts expect Monday to be an “eventful” trading session. 

The question, though, is whether this is the most diplomatic way of describing what might actually unfold.

Looking at the ongoing developments surrounding the Iran-U.S. conflict, the word “eventful” seems like an understated way of describing what the U.S. stock market could face on Monday, the 20th April. 

For context, the past 72 hours have been highly volatile.

From the ceasefire boost to the U.S. President Donald Trump’s post about the Strait of Hormuz reopening, followed by the Iranian government’s immediate dismissal of his claims, the crypto market has mirrored this exact sequence.

Bitcoin [BTC] briefly broke above $78k, only to pull back toward $75k. This raises an important question: Where is crypto headed next?

At the macro level, price action suggests growing downside asymmetry. 

As the chart above shows, market probabilities now place a 44% chance of U.S. oil prices reclaiming the $100 per barrel level this month as Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz again.

Notably, the last trading session saw oil prices close 5.9% lower following President Trump’s announcement.

The $292 million Kelp exploit: how it happened, and what it means for DeFi



A roughly $292 million exploit over the weekend has rattled the crypto industry, exposing vulnerabilities in decentralized finance (DeFi) infrastructure and raising concerns about knock-on effects across lending protocols.

While investigations are still ongoing, early analysis suggests the attack centered on Kelp’s rsETH token — a yield-bearing version of ether ($ETH) — and the mechanism used to move assets between blockchains.

The attacker appears to have manipulated that system to create large amounts of tokens without proper backing, then quickly used them as collateral to borrow and drain real assets from lending markets, mostly from Aave , the largest decentralized crypto lender.

The incident is the latest blow to DeFi, happening only a couple weeks after the $285 million exploit of Solana-based protocol Drift, further denting investor trust in the nearly $90 billion crypto sector.

How the attack worked

At a high level, the exploit targeted a LayerZero bridge component — a piece of infrastructure that enables assets to move across different blockchains, Charles Guillemet, CTO of hardware wallet maker Ledger, told CoinDesk in a note.

Bridges typically work by locking assets on one chain and minting equivalent tokens on another. That process depends on a trusted entity — often called an oracle or validator — to confirm deposits.

In this case, Kelp effectively acted as that verifier. According to Guillemet, the system relied on a single-signer setup, meaning just one entity could approve any transactions.

"It seems the attacker was able to sign a message … allowing him to mint large amount of rsETH," he said. He added that it remains unclear how that access was obtained.

Michael Egorov, founder of Curve Finance, pointed to the same weakness in the system's configuration.

Ethereum is trading around $2.3k, holding near its highest levels since the February crash. Yet, there are signs of short-term fatigue after failing to sustain a breakout above the $2.4k resistance zone. The broader recovery remains intact, but the repeated failure at this ceiling is becoming a pattern that buyers will need to decisively break to shift the narrative.

Ethereum Price Analysis: The Daily Chart

The price is pressing against a genuinely significant confluence on the daily chart, comprised of the 100-day moving average and the $2.4k supply zone. $ETH has now closed above the long-term descending channel after months, but it is failing to follow through convincingly. That inability to sustain the breakout is the dominant story right now.

What keeps the setup from being outright bearish is the RSI, which has been grinding higher since February and is now holding above 50 on the daily timeframe. It is a reflection of steady bullish momentum building beneath the surface. The 200-day MA (~$2.9k) and the $2.8k supply zone sit well above, representing the next meaningful targets if the breakout does eventually confirm. Below, $1.8k remains the line in the sand, with $1.6k and $1.4k as deeper support levels.

The 4-hour chart is flashing a warning sign that deserves attention. After briefly breaking above $2.4k earlier this week, the price quickly reversed, and the RSI has printed a clear bearish divergence on this timeframe. The signal is marked visibly on the chart: the price made a higher high just below $2.5k while the RSI made a lower high. This is a classic signal of fading momentum at resistance.

Since that rejection, the price has pulled back to around $2.32k and is now sitting just above the bullish trendline from the early-April lows near $2k, with the RSI dropping toward the 40s. The trendline is being tested right now,

Iran’s announcement that the Strait of Hormuz would be temporarily opened during a ceasefire window sparked one of the strongest energy market reversals of the year.
Following the news, Brent crude fell 12.95% to $86.52, while WTI dropped 14.26% to $81.19—both hitting their lowest levels since March 11 and marking the largest single-day decline since early April. The move reflected traders rapidly removing the “war risk premium” that had been built into oil prices over recent weeks.
The shift in sentiment also spread across global markets:
U.S. stock markets rallied
Bond yields declined
The U.S. dollar weakened
Bitcoin briefly surged to an intraday high of $78,336
Analysts note that markets quickly repriced risk assets as geopolitical tensions eased, even temporarily.
However, the situation remains fragile. Reports indicate that vessel movement through the Strait is still tightly controlled, requiring authorization from Iranian authorities and restricted transit through designated safe lanes. At the same time, U.S. sanctions and shipping restrictions remain in place, leaving the broader dispute unresolved.
By April 18, Iran reportedly re-imposed closure measures after diplomatic progress stalled, pushing markets back into uncertainty ahead of the April 22 ceasefire deadline.
Despite the brief reopening, only eight oil and gas tankers were able to pass through, highlighting how far the region remains from normal shipping conditions.
Overall, the situation continues to keep markets highly sensitive, with energy prices, risk assets, and crypto all reacting sharply to geopolitical headlines. 🚢📉📈
