A rising share of on-chain payments is machine-led, but DWF, BCG, and others show the so-called agent economy still depends on centralized gateways.

Artificial intelligence and crypto-native tools are quickly shaping a future where software agents can fund themselves, run cross-chain strategies, and move through financial markets with no one at the controls.

According to a recent report by DWF Ventures, automated and agentic activity now accounts for an estimated 19% of all on-chain transactions, with 17,000 agents launched since 2025.

The report added that the agent economy is already here.

The RHODL ratio has climbed to its third highest level on record, reflecting a market where long-term holders dominate following a 50% correction that flushed out short-term speculation.

Bitcoin Pressure Builds As Miners Dump 32K BTC In Just 3 Months

About 20% of the Bitcoin mining industry is operating at a loss right now. That single fact explains much of what has been unfolding across the sector in early 2026, as publicly traded miners race to sell off holdings just to keep the lights on.

Profits Squeezed To The Bone

Hashprice — the daily revenue a miner earns per unit of computing power — has been sliding since July 2025. It now sits at roughly $33 per petahash per second per day, according to data from Hashrate Index.

The breakeven point for many miners, particularly those running older machines, is around $35. That gap, small as it looks on paper, is pushing a large chunk of the industry into the red.

Major publicly traded miners — among them MARA, CleanSpark, Riot, Cango, Core Scientific, and Bitdeer — collectively offloaded more than 32,000 BTC during the first three months of 2026, according to TheEnergyMag.

That figure eclipses everything those same companies sold across all four quarters of 2025. It also surpasses the previous quarterly record of roughly 20,000 BTC, set during Q2 2022 when the collapse of the Terra-Luna ecosystem sent markets into a tailspin.

Three compounding forces drove miners to that record: a rising network hashrate that has made competition fiercer, reduced block rewards following the most recent halving, and broader economic headwinds that have kept Bitcoin prices under pressure.

The selling in Q1 2026 did not come out of nowhere. Data from CryptoQuant shows that total Bitcoin held by miners across the board has been falling since 2023.

At the close of that year, miners collectively held more than 1.86 million BTC. That number has since dropped to approximately 1.8 million.

Data shows the crypto Fear & Greed Index is still inside the extreme fear territory despite the recovery that Bitcoin and other coins have made.

Bitcoin Fear & Greed Index Is Still Pointing At ‘Extreme Fear’
The “Fear & Greed Index” is an indicator created by Alternative that tells us about the average sentiment present among traders in the Bitcoin and wider cryptocurrency markets. The index takes into account for the data of the following five factors to determine the investor mentality: trading volume, market cap dominance, volatility, social media sentiment, and Google Trends.

To represent the market sentiment, the metric makes use of a numerical scale running from zero to hundred. All values on this scale that lie below 47 correspond to a net sentiment of fear, while those above 53 suggest the dominance of greed among investors. Naturally, the values lying between these two cutoffs imply a neutral mentality.

Besides these three main zones, there are also two ‘extreme’ regions called the extreme fear (25 and under) and extreme greed (above 75). Historically, these two have held significance for the market as they have been where major tops and bottoms have tended to form.

The relationship between prices and sentiment has been an inverse one, however, with tops appearing during extreme greed and bottoms alongside extreme fear.

Recently, the crypto sector has been stuck in the latter of the two, as the below chart shows.
