Bitcoin’s recovery hits a Fed ceiling with no sign of cheaper money

Powell may stay chair pro tem if Warsh's confirmation stalls, and that uncertainty is keeping Bitcoin's recovery rally under a macro ceiling.
Bitcoin's latest recovery has pushed the flagship digital asset back toward the $75,000 level, tracking a broader return in risk appetite as hopes for de-escalation in the Middle East lifted global equities to fresh records.

However, the move is running into a quieter constraint than geopolitics or crypto-specific sentiment: the bond market still shows a Federal Reserve that remains in no hurry to loosen policy.

That backdrop has become more important as the succession battle at the US central bank enters a more volatile phase.
The Senate Banking Committee has scheduled Kevin Warsh's confirmation hearing for April 21, while Jerome Powell's current term as chair ends on May 15.

Powell's term as a Fed governor runs until Jan. 31, 2028, and he said last month that if his successor is not confirmed by the time his chairmanship expires, he would serve as chair pro tem until that happens.

For crypto investors, that means the question is no longer only whether Warsh reaches the chair. It is whether the market begins to believe that a change at the top would actually alter the path of rates and liquidity.

The Fed's March meeting pointed in the opposite direction. Officials left the target range for the federal funds rate unchanged at 3.5% to 3.75%, said inflation remained somewhat elevated, and repeated that any further adjustments would depend on incoming data, the evolving outlook, and the balance of risks.

Clarity Act's stablecoin yield language pushed back; ban on idle balances still intact The anticipated release of the latest language on stablecoin rewards in the Clarity Act has been pushed back.

A source familiar with the discussions told The Block that the latest text reflects previous language that bans rewards on idle stablecoin holdings.

The anticipated release of the Clarity Act's latest text on stablecoin yield appears to have been pushed back to next week and beyond.

According to a Politico report, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) said the draft will likely not be released this week, saying that he wants clarity on the timing of the upcoming Banking Committee markup before publishing the text to the public.

A source familiar with the matter also told The Block that the text won't be released this week, and that the legislative team continues to meet with bank trade associations and crypto companies.

The source also confirmed that the draft currently reflects prior language that would ban rewards on idle stablecoin holdings in accounts, while allowing yield on activity like transactions. It would be difficult to make substantive changes to the text at this point, according to the source.

USDT momentum grows as USDC dominance faces scrutiny

Stablecoins remain the key engine powering DeFi, making the FUD surrounding USDC particularly notable. 

Following the 2022 Terra collapse, when USDT depegged to $0.95, liquidity preferences began to shift. As a result, USDC gained momentum across DeFi rails.

Circle’s IPO further reinforced this trend last year, creating a clear divergence on Solana as market confidence rotated toward USDC while USDT adoption lagged. 

Meanwhile, on-chain data points to continued capital inflows. According to DeFiLlama, stablecoin supply on Solana has climbed 3.5% this week, adding nearly $540 million in fresh inflows and pushing total supply close to its $16 billion all-time high.

Even so, USDC still accounts for over 51% of the supply, reinforcing its dominant position within Solana’s DeFi ecosystem.

This move reflects a broader trend in traditional finance, where institutions are increasingly exploring tokenization as a new way to distribute and access investment products. Major players like BlackRock and JPMorgan have already launched tokenized funds, highlighting growing interest in bringing real-world assets onto blockchain networks.

However, industry experts caution that tokenization alone does not solve liquidity challenges. Converting assets into digital tokens does not automatically make them easier to trade. Liquidity still depends on market demand, infrastructure, and investor participation.

Executives emphasize that while some asset classes like government bonds and money market funds may benefit from improved liquidity on blockchain, more complex or illiquid assets such as private credit may not experience the same effect.

Despite these concerns, the tokenization market continues to grow rapidly, with total tokenized real-world assets approaching $30 billion. This suggests strong interest in the concept, even as the industry works through its limitations.

Overall, Flow Capital’s initiative highlights both the opportunity and the challenges of tokenization. While blockchain can improve accessibility and efficiency, it does not eliminate the fundamental realities of market liquidity.

Negative Funding Rates Hit Yearly High as Bitcoin Tests $76K

Bitcoin funding rates hit year-high negative levels, setting up a potential short squeeze-or bull trap-as its price tests $76K.

Bitcoin's recent rally toward $76,000 faces a dilemma, leaving investors split on its near-term outlook.

Funding rates for Bitcoin-a fee paid by derivatives traders to maintain the alignment between spot and futures prices-have remained negative for over a month and hit the highest level this year, according to Coinglass data.

The divergence between bearish derivatives positioning and bullish spot catalysts sets up a potential short squeeze-or a bull trap-depending on which side breaks first.

"Funding rates this negative tell you the market is heavily short," Daniel Reis-Faria, CEO of ZeroStack, told Decrypt.

Bitcoin Fear & Greed Index Is Still Pointing At ‘Extreme Fear’
The “Fear & Greed Index” is an indicator created by Alternative that tells us about the average sentiment present among traders in the Bitcoin and wider cryptocurrency markets. The index takes into account for the data of the following five factors to determine the investor mentality: trading volume, market cap dominance, volatility, social media sentiment, and Google Trends.

To represent the market sentiment, the metric makes use of a numerical scale running from zero to hundred. All values on this scale that lie below 47 correspond to a net sentiment of fear, while those above 53 suggest the dominance of greed among investors. Naturally, the values lying between these two cutoffs imply a neutral mentality.

Besides these three main zones, there are also two ‘extreme’ regions called the extreme fear (25 and under) and extreme greed (above 75). Historically, these two have held significance for the market as they have been where major tops and bottoms have tended to form.

The relationship between prices and sentiment has been an inverse one, however, with tops appearing during extreme greed and bottoms alongside extreme fear.

Recently, the crypto sector has been stuck in the latter of the two, as the below chart shows.
