Foundry Aims To Launch Zcash Mining Pool In April 2026
As revealed in a press release, Foundry is expanding into Zcash with a new mining pool aimed at filling a gap in ZEC mining infrastructure for institutional entities and public companies. Foundry is the operator of Foundry USA, the largest Bitcoin mining pool based on total computing power or Hashrate. A mining pool refers to a collaboration between miners spread over a decentralized network who combine their Hashrate to better compete with the wider network and increase their chances of earning block rewards.

With its latest move, Foundry is now bringing in an institutional-grade mining pool to ZEC. “Zcash has matured into an institutional-grade asset, but the mining infrastructure supporting it hasn’t kept pace,” said Mike Coyler, Foundry CEO.

Zcash is a privacy-focused token that was first launched in 2016. While cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum are “anonymous” in that they involve no identity verification, their addresses and transactions are still available on a public ledger to be viewed by anyone. Privacy coins like ZEC involve truly anonymous blockchains, hiding such information by default. The press release noted:

Zcash was originally based on Bitcoin’s codebase, so its token economics work similarly; the supply grows when miners add a new block to the chain and receive the corresponding block reward. BoE To Revise Stablecoin Regulation Proposal

On Wednesday, Bank of England Deputy Governor Sarah Breeden affirmed that the financial authority was “genuinely open” to revising its stablecoin proposals, including an ownership cap and a 60:40 split of asset backing, published for public consultation in late 2025.

For context, the financial regulator has proposed to temporarily cap stablecoin ownership to “mitigate financial stability risks stemming from large and rapid outflows of deposits from the banking sector.”

According to the November consultation paper, the restriction would set limits of £10,000 to £20,000 for individuals and £10 million for businesses, mirroring its proposed approach to the digital pound.

In addition, the BoE suggested that systemic stablecoin issuers are required to hold at least 40% of reserves backing a stablecoin as unremunerated deposits at the central bank, aiming to ensure “robust redemption and public confidence, even under stress.”

During a meeting with the House of Lords Financial Services Regulation Committee, Breeden said the BoE remained receptive to alternative approaches that could achieve its financial stability objective without relying on its controversial proposals.

According to recent reports, the central bank “proposed holding limits as a way of managing that risk.” Breeden told the House of Lords Committee that they “are open to feedback on other ways of achieving it.”

She also revealed that the BoE would review whether the 60:40 asset allocation supporting stablecoins is “excessively conservative.” However, she argued that the structure aligns broadly with measures proposed in the United States and has already been adopted in the European Union (EU).

Many Bitcoin miners are struggling to turn a profit this market cycle due to diminishing returns, so they may need to pivot to artificial intelligence hosting or put their holdings to work to generate yields, says market maker Wintermute.

Wintermute said in a blog post on Thursday that Bitcoin ($BTC) miners have spent years building large-scale power infrastructure in low-cost energy markets, and they now find themselves “sitting on exactly what the AI industry needs most urgently and cannot easily replicate.”

It said that Bitcoin mining is a “structurally rigid business model,” and while the AI pivot is a compelling one, it is also a “drastic and capital-intensive step.”

The report comes as mining giant MARA Holdings is the latest to eye AI, filing with the SEC on March 3 to signal its intent to sell some of its $BTC to pivot to the technology. Meanwhile, publicly listed miners have sold more than 15,000 Bitcoin since October.

Miners hanging onto Bitcoin is “legacy of the HODL era”

Wintermute said that Bitcoin miners are collectively holding close to 1% of the total $BTC supply, which it argued was a “legacy of the HODL era,” and that the “full toolkit of treasury management remains largely untapped.”

Crypto yield generation has been traditionally limited to staking and DeFi, but Wintermute said miners could tap yields through active management, such as monetizing market risk through derivatives structures, covered calls, and cash-secured puts.

Passive management options include deploying $BTC into lending protocols to earn interest.
