Crypto News Today: This Lending Protocol Hits $290M in Testnet Liquidity Ahead of Mainnet

A decentralized lending and borrowing protocol has recorded over $290 million in testnet total value locked on the Sepolia network ahead of its scheduled mainnet launch - a figure that places Mutuum Finance (MUTM) among the more active DeFi deployments currently in pre-launch testing. The milestone arrives as the project advances through the final stages of its development roadmap and prepares for the transition from testnet to a fully live protocol.

What $290M in Testnet Liquidity Actually Means

Testnet liquidity is simulated - users interact with test versions of supported assets rather than real capital. But the scale of participation reflects something real: an active community that has taken the time to understand and engage with the protocol's mechanics before mainnet deployment. Over $290 million in testnet TVL means thousands of test transactions, collateral deposits, borrow positions, and liquidation events have already run through the system. The automated liquidator bot has been tested under realistic load conditions. The Stability Factor calculations have been validated across multiple asset pairings. The interest rate models have been stress-tested against shifting utilization scenarios.

For a protocol approaching its mainnet launch, that level of pre-deployment activity is a meaningful quality signal. It means the system has been exercised at scale before real capital is at risk.

Anthony Scaramucci, founder of venture capital firm SkiBridge, has flipped bullish on Polkadot.

According to the crypto investor, the latest regulatory update and major tokenomics were some of the bullish catalysts that are ‘quietly rebuilding momentum’ for the chain.

In the latest SEC guidance, DOT was categorized as a digital commodity like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Beyond regulatory clarity, the recent tokenomics overhaul has hard-capped DOT supply at 2.1 billion. Additionally, the annual emissions were cut from 120 million DOT to 55 million DOT, marking a 53% cut.

The 21Shares Spot DOT ETF was another key catalyst, according to Scaramucci.

However, since the product debuted, it has only seen one day of inflow of $544.5K. For the rest of March, the Spot DOT ETF has seen zero flows, suggesting that the demand is not as strong as the analyst projected.

But the ETF demand isn’t the only thing lagging for DOT.

Polkadot network activity declining

On the network activity and adoption, Polkadot has seen a significant loss in traction. Apart from the initial broader market hype and rally in late 2024, the chain’s adoption has been in a free fall.

This was illustrated by the drop in weekly average active addresses, slipping from 16K to 5K in the past two years.

It remains to be seen whether the recent tokenomics overhaul will attract users again.

On market dynamics, DOT’s tokenomics and deflation push saw sentiment briefly flip positive before reverting to negative.

In other words, the changes temporarily tipped traders to go bullish on the altcoin. In fact, during the spike in positive sentiment, the altcoin rallied 18%. Put differently, the market welcomed the recent upgrades.

A well-known early Ethereum wallet, thomasg.eth, is quietly rebuilding its ETH holdings. According to Arkham Intelligence, the wallet bought roughly $19.5 million worth of ETH over the past week across spot, wrapped ETH (WETH), and Aave-deposited ETH, including a fresh $3 million purchase on March 20.
At its peak in 2021, thomasg.eth held around $537 million in crypto assets. With ETH now trading about 56% below its all-time high of $4,946, the wallet is taking advantage of lower prices. Interestingly, this comes as U.S. spot Ether ETFs have posted net outflows for three consecutive days — $55.7M on March 18, $136.4M on March 19, and $42M on March 20.
Meanwhile, Tom Lee, founder of Fundstrat and chairman of Bitmine Immersion Technologies (which holds roughly 4.6 million ETH), is also bullish. Citing Tom DeMark’s analysis, Lee notes that ETH’s recent price action shows a 93% correlation with the S&P 500’s recovery after the 1987 crash and 2011 bottom, suggesting ETH may have bottomed around March 7 or is in the process of doing so.
Lee also points out that ETH’s realized price (on-chain average purchase price) is around $2,241, similar to the discount levels seen at previous major lows in 2022 and 2025. Over the past decade, ETH has delivered roughly 49,000% returns, far outpacing Bitcoin’s 11,000% and even Nvidia’s historic run, proving it can be a “great store of value” despite big drawdowns.
Based on this outlook, Bitmine has accelerated its purchases, believing ETH is in the final stages of a “mini crypto winter.” With major whales like thomasg.eth and institutional players stepping in, Ethereum may be setting the stage for a new opportunity window.
