BTC recently pushed above $70K during the weekend and briefly approached the $72,000 level before cooling slightly. If the weekly candle closes above $70K, it could confirm a reclaim of the important 200-week trend line.

Analysts note that selling pressure near local highs appears to be normal profit-taking rather than panic selling.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission formally agreed to work more closely together to explain how they'd oversee crypto and other issues.

Why it matters

The agencies continue to signal that their past regulatory turf war has ended, and laid out a an explanation of how they'll jointly approach rulemaking — a welcome sign for the crypto industry.

Breaking it down

The SEC and CFTC signed a memorandum of understanding last week aimed at combining their regulatory approaches to the digital asset and other emerging technology sectors. According to the memo, the agencies will regularly hold joint meetings, share data and otherwise communicate their efforts to oversee the digital asset sector.

"More than aligning our rules, a harmonized framework also demands coordinating our responses to the firms that operate within it, including those that have questions of interpretation or request exemptive relief," SEC Chair Paul Atkins said in prepared remarks earlier this week.

The chief suggestion here: That the SEC and CFTC will coordinate how they're both defining a digital asset as a security or a not-security, in a way they didn't two years ago.

One of the goals of the memo is for the agencies to "clarify product definitions through joint interpretations and rulemakings," it said.

Jordi Visser, a 30-Year Analyst, Explains the Event That Could Trigger a “Super Cycle” in Bitcoin
Appearing as a guest on Anthony Pompliano’s podcast, Jordi Visser, founder of Visser Labs, offered a striking projection of the global economy and cryptocurrency markets.

According to Visser, the risk of contagion similar to the 2008 financial crisis is looming in the financial world, and this could create a “supercycle” that serves Bitcoin’s original purpose.

Visser stated that the private credit market, worth approximately $4 trillion, carries a greater systemic risk than commonly believed. Arguing that restrictions on traditional banking (such as Dodd-Frank) have caused debt to shift to “off-balance sheet” areas and opaque private markets, Visser said:
“We are in a K-type economy where lower income groups are struggling. We will see who is who when liquidity starts to be drawn from the private credit market. Financial stocks have already fallen below their 200-day moving averages; this is usually the beginning of bad things.”

Visser compared the current situation to the 1998 Russian crisis and the 2008 Great Financial Crisis. He noted that rising oil prices and inflationary pressures are putting central banks in a tight spot, and pointed out that historically, Bitcoin’s biggest surges have occurred immediately following financial shocks.

According to Visser, investors will turn to Bitcoin as they shy away from “illiquid” and “non-transparent” assets like private loans and real estate. While the “doors closing” in the private loan market traps investors, Bitcoin offers 24/7 liquidity and complete transparency through the blockchain.

Ethereum And Solana Lead Developer Activity Amid Broad Decline

Artemis data show that the Ethereum and Solana ecosystems are leading in developer activity amid declines in weekly commits and weekly active developers in crypto. In the Ethereum ecosystem, the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) is seeing the most activity, with 31,620 weekly commits.

It is worth noting that several sectors in the Ethereum ecosystem currently rank among the top seven in developer activity. Meanwhile, the Solana ecosystem comes next, with the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) Layer 1 and Layer 2 seeing the most activity, at 7,056 weekly commits. However, there has been a significant decline in the crypto ecosystem as a whole. 

Further data from Artemis shows that weekly commits have dropped from a yearly high of around 870,900 in March last year to as low as 217,500 in February. Notably, weekly commits crashed around the time of the crypto market’s infamous ‘October 10’ crash, which led to the largest liquidation event in crypto history.
