According to CloverPool data, the update, which occurred at block height 941,472, reduced mining difficulty by 7.76% to 133.79 trillion (T). This decrease stands out as the second largest difficulty reduction recorded so far in 2026. The network's current hashrate is approximately 933.51 EH/s, while some measurements show it hovering around 948 EH/s. Experts indicate that this weakening of the network may continue in the short term. Indeed, according to current data, a further decrease of approximately 0.39% is expected in the next difficulty adjustment, and the difficulty is projected to fall to 133.26 Τ. In the latest difficulty adjustment, the average block time was recorded as 9 minutes and 32 seconds. This is close to the 10-minute block time target of the Bitcoin network, indicating that the transaction verification pace on the network is trying to stabilize. U.S. regulators are starting to lay out clearer rules for how crypto can be used in traditional financial markets.
On Friday, staff at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) released a new FAQ explaining how futures brokers and clearinghouses should handle digital assets used as collateral in derivatives trading. The guidance is meant to remove confusion and make it easier for firms to operate under existing rules.
The FAQ builds on earlier guidance issued in December 2025, which introduced a pilot program allowing certain cryptocurrencies—like bitcoin, ether, and the stablecoin USDC—to be used as collateral in derivatives markets.
One of the biggest takeaways is how the CFTC wants firms to manage risk. The agency is aligning its approach with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), setting standard “haircuts” (risk discounts) on crypto assets:
Bitcoin and ether will carry a 20% capital charge
Payment stablecoins will have a much lower 2% charge
This means firms must hold more capital against volatile assets like bitcoin and ether, while stablecoins—considered less risky—require far less.
There are also limits on how firms can use these assets. Futures commission merchants (FCMs) are allowed to deposit their own stablecoins into customer accounts as part of required funds. However, they cannot do the same with more volatile cryptocurrencies like bitcoin or ether.
Overall, the message from regulators is clear: crypto can play a role in traditional derivatives markets, but only within a structured and risk-controlled framework.
By aligning rules between the CFTC and SEC, regulators are also trying to create consistency across the financial system—something the industry has been pushing for as it continues to integrate digital assets into mainstream finance.

Large cap cryptocurrencies were mostly flat over a seven-day period on Saturday, but one coin stood out: Hyperliquid’s native coin, HYPE.

HYPE, the 14th largest coin by market value, was up nearly 6% over a weekly period, and was priced at a little over $40, according to CoinGecko.

Its rise came after crypto asset manager Grayscale on Friday filed for a new product, a “Grayscale HYPE ETF”, that would trade on the Nasdaq if approved.

Bitcoin, meanwhile, hadn’t budged over a seven-day timeframe. The leading cryptocurrency was trading for $70,943 at 10am in New York.

What’s all the HYPE?

Grayscale’s filing comes as the decentralised crypto exchange sees a surge in trading as traders bet on the price of other assets like oil and gold.

Commodity trading on Hyperliquid has become popular since the US and Israel attacked Iran; when traditional markets are closed, Hyperliquid continues processing trades, allowing speculators to make bets on weekends.

Its native coin, HYPE, is up 56% year-to-date.

Hyperliquid is so popular that the S&P 500 this week gave crypto platform Trade[XYZ] the green light to debut a new derivative contract on the exchange giving non-US investors exposure to the equity index.

Two days after it debuted, it hit $100 million in 24-hour volume — making it one of the 10 largest markets on the booming blockchain.
