Strategy returns to common stock to fund $76.5M Bitcoin purchase

In a fresh move to expand its Bitcoin holdings, Strategy Inc. has returned to selling common stock after briefly relying on preferred shares.

According to Bloomberg, the company led by Michael Saylor acquired around 1,031 Bitcoin between March 16 and March 22, spending roughly $76.5 million.

The latest purchase was fully financed through at-the-market sales of the company's Class A common stock. This marks a shift from the previous week, when Strategy raised $1.2 billion using perpetual preferred shares, branded as its "Stretch" offering.

That earlier raise funded one of the company's biggest Bitcoin buys so far this year.

In derivatives, positioning has turned more defensive. CVD has reversed negative, highlighting renewed sell-side aggression, while open interest has edged lower and funding rates have flipped positive — suggesting modest leverage reduction alongside some rebuilding of long exposure, though conviction remains measured.

Options markets are stable, with open interest largely unchanged and volatility expectations subdued. A rise in 25-delta skew points to growing demand for downside protection, reflecting cautious sentiment among traders.

ETF positioning shows signs of cooling participation, with both net inflows and trading volumes declining. Profitability metrics have also compressed, with MVRV trending toward the lower end of its range, suggesting increased sensitivity to downside and a more defensive allocation backdrop.

On-chain activity remains subdued, with weak address activity and declining transfer volumes pointing to limited economic throughput. Capital flows show early signs of stabilization, while supply dynamics remain anchored by long-term holders and low hot capital participation.

In sum, the market appears to be transitioning into a consolidation phase, with softer activity, defensive positioning, and tentative signs of stabilization emerging across both spot and derivatives segments.

Draft proposal targets stablecoin yield

According to a report from Eleanor Terrett, new legislative language under discussion could significantly limit how stablecoin issuers and platforms offer rewards to users.

The proposal would prohibit platforms from offering yield “directly or indirectly” for holding a stablecoin, or in any way that resembles a bank deposit. The restriction would apply broadly across exchanges, brokers, and affiliated services.

It would also ban any mechanism deemed “economically or functionally equivalent” to interest.

At the same time, the draft would allow activity-based rewards tied to user behavior, such as loyalty or promotional programs, provided they are not interpreted as interest-like incentives.
