However, instead of triggering a sustained rally, the market reacted with a sell-the-news event, as traders locked in profits following the announcement.
This highlights a key theme in the current cycle: good news is being absorbed quickly without sustained upside follow-through.

Polkadot Hyperbridge April Fools’ joke comes true as over 1 Billion fake DOT tokens were minted on Ethereum

A proof replay bug let the attacker mint over $1 billion DOT tokens on Ethereum, yet shallow DOT pools capped the cashout near $240,000.

Hyperbridge, a decentralized bridge connecting the Polkadot ecosystem to the Ethereum network, suffered a major security breach that allowed an attacker to mint 1 billion unauthorized DOT tokens.

However, the hacker’s potential multimillion-dollar payday was drastically cut short to around $240,000 as there simply was not enough liquidity to cash out the fabricated assets.

While the direct financial losses from the exploit were relatively contained, the incident has sent shockwaves through the Polkadot ecosystem, driving the network's DOT native token toward its all-time low amid broader market anxieties regarding cross-chain security.

Security experts explained that the vulnerability resided in how Hyperbridge’s contracts validated incoming cross-chain messages before passing them along to the token gateway.

Blockchain security firm BlockSec Phalcon identified the root cause as a “Merkle Mountain Range (MMR) proof replay vulnerability.” This is essentially a cryptographic blind spot that allowed the attacker to recycle old, valid security proofs and attach them to malicious, newly crafted requests.

At the core of the breach was a missing input validation within the system's `VerifyProof()` function. In standard cross-chain operations, a bridge must verify that a request originating on one blockchain is authentic before executing a corresponding action, such as minting tokens, on another.

In this instance, the Hyperbridge contract failed to properly bind the submitted request payload to the validated proof.

Morpho’s $170mln interest haul hides bigger question: Can it beat Aave?

Morpho, a decentralized DeFi lending protocol, is making headlines for the right reasons.

As per a recent update, borrowers on Morpho paid a total of “$170M in interest during the past year,” as reported by Token Terminal. Though this might raise eyebrows at first glance, the hidden layers tell a completely different story.

With a roughly 10% of ‘take rate,’ the Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) would generate about $17 million in annual revenue. This would take place against a $1.7 billion valuation. Calculated together, this means that Morpho is valued at 100x its annual revenue.

In simple terms, compared to its current earnings, investors are valuing Morpho at a much higher price. So, even if the user at Morpho paid a huge sum of $170 million in interest, only $17 million will go to the DAO.

However, it’s important to note that all this is happening in anticipation of a revenue that will skyrocket exponentially.

Morpho vs Aave investment strategies

This, in comparison to Aave [AAVE], which recently made news for crossing $10 million in deposits, is shocking.

As per Token Terminal’s data, Aave has generated $140 million in annual revenue against a $1.5 billion valuation. This means that in comparison to Morpho [$MORPHO], Aave is valued at much less than 10-11x its annual revenue.

So, in a nutshell, Morpho is focused on user yield and user attraction with its lower fees. Whereas Aave has a higher fee-capturing model and is already optimised for revenue, unlike Morohpo, in which monetization happens later.

However, if Morpho plans to increase its monetization in the near term, then it would lose the current competitive edge it has against Aave.
