At the same time, $XRP’s price itself shot up from $0.99 to $1.15 at the time of writing, a psychologically important level not seen since July 21, per CoinMarketCap data.

Why is $XRP rallying today?

The $XRP price rally comes as the crypto sector receives another potential catalyst from Washington, as President Donald Trump has called for Congress to pass the CLARITY Act.

Speaking at a White House event attended by some of the sector’s biggest executives, Trump urged lawmakers to move forward with the legislation, which is shaping up to be one of the most important milestones for the industry.

“Now we need ​Congress to take the next step by passing the CLARITY Act, fair version of the CLARITY Act,” Trump said on August 19.

Bitcoin Shortsellers Get Destroyed With $1.7B in Positions Liquidated Following BTC Price Jump 

Those betting on the price of bitcoin to drop have had their positions closed following a green candle earlier on Wednesday.

Daily liquidations of Bitcoin positions surged on Wednesday after the price of the leading digital asset flirted with $70,000. 

Over $1.7 billion in positions held by traders shorting the biggest cryptocurrency have been closed in the past 24 hours, according to Coinglass data. 

And the vast majority — $1.5 billion — of those positions were liquidated in the past four hours. 

Bitcoin on Wednesday morning traded briefly as high as $69,000 before dipping again. It was recently priced at $68,253 after jumping more than 5% over a 24-hour period. 

The price surge comes after bitcoin had largely been flat over the past 30 days. Analysts have pointed out that the coin’s volatility has been at record lows. 

Bitcoin has benefited — along with other “risk-on” assets — from news that the U.S. Treasury planned to more than double the size of its government debt repurchases. 

The announcement from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was aimed at taming yields, which had surged to levels not seen in nearly 20 years.

Lower long-term yields reduces the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like bitcoin and gold, and generally supports risk-on sentiment. 

Bitcoin may have also benefited from investors expecting pro-crypto regulatory news: President Trump on Wednesday will hold a meeting with crypto and prediction market executives. 

Despite a vote on the long-awaited crypto Clarity Act getting delayed, regulators are keen to press forward with rules that the industry has long called for. 

On Tuesday, the Securities and Exchange Commission announced Tuesday a proposed framework for crypto asset offerings, pressing ahead despite the landmark legislation stalling.

The move followed a decisive breakout from a lengthy $74 to $77 consolidation range. Meanwhile, derivatives positioning remains cautious after open interest fell sharply from its September peak.

$SOL Pushes Toward a Key Resistance
$SOL’s latest advance has placed the token near its recent swing high at $87.33. The price briefly moved beyond that level before encountering profit-taking pressure.

However, the broader structure continues to favor buyers. $SOL trades well above its 20, 50, 100, and 200 EMAs. Those averages currently sit near $79.48, $77.41, $76.37, and $75.85.

Consequently, the moving-average structure confirms strong short-term momentum. The recent breakout also created a series of higher highs and higher lows.

Still, traders could see additional volatility after such a rapid advance. The $84.48 level now offers the first important test during any pullback.

Support Levels Could Shape the Next Move
A decline below $84.48 could send $SOL toward the $82.25 Fibonacci level. Buyers would need to defend that zone to preserve the latest bullish structure.

Moreover, $80.68 represents another important support level near the 0.5 Fibonacci retracement. The $79.10 to $79.50 area carries even greater importance.

That zone combines the 0.382 Fibonacci level with the 20-day EMA. Hence, sustained trading above it would keep the broader recovery intact.

If $SOL breaks $87.33 with strong volume, the token could enter price discovery above recent resistance. Conversely, a move below $79.50 would weaken the bullish setup.
