Jim Cramer wants out of bitcoin $BTC$63,607.21 and the crypto community’s reaction is positive.

The "Mad Money" host said this week that he plans to sell all of his bitcoin holdings due to concerns that advancements in quantum computing could threaten cryptocurrencies within the next three to four years.

The comment followed his July 31 interview with IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna, who told Cramer that quantum computers could challenge modern cryptography within that window and that investors should be "paranoid" about the risk.

Neither the size of Cramer's bitcoin stash nor any wallet tied to him has been disclosed, or tracked by analytics firms, so there's no way to independently verify whether he actually holds $BTC or has started selling his coins.

Some in the crypto community are buoyed by Cramer’s plan to exit the market.

“Jim Cramer did it again. Bitcoin just received the strongest buy signal of 2026,” a self-proclaimed bitcoin maximalist X user Alex said.

Several others have made similar comments but $BTC has remained resilient around $64,000 despite the Coldcard hack incident and rising bond yields.

Inverse Cramer?

The reaction of the crypto community can be explained by Cramer’s reputation as a contrary indicator in the industry. The "inverse Cramer" trade, betting against whatever he recommends, became such a running meme that an entire ETF was built around it. The Inverse Cramer Tracker ETF (SJIM) launched in 2023 to short his public calls; it shut down in early 2024 after failing to gather meaningful assets.

Every major token except ether is green on the week, with BTC up 1.9% over 24 hours and Asian equities selling off on Al-trade jitters.

Bitcoin neared $64,000 in Asian morning hours Tuesday, up 2% over 24 hours and 1% on the week, recovering the $63,000 level it lost during Monday's session. The low came near $62,250 before a steady bid carried it to just above $64,100 overnight.

Ether lagged near $1,865, up marginally on the day but still down 1% over seven days, the only major in the red on the weekly view. XRP rose almost 1% to $1.08 and is up 2% on the week. BNB added 1.5% to nearly $591 and leads the majors over seven days at almost 5%.

Solana gained over 1% to nearly $74, tron 1% to 33 cents and dogecoin the same to 7 cents. Hyperliquid's HYPE bounced over 4% to $54 after last week's slide, though it remains down 3% over seven days.

The recovery came without any resolution to the Coldcard situation. A fourth wave of sweeps against addresses generated by the affected firmware ran through Monday, taking roughly 449 bitcoin from 709 addresses on the revised count, and Galaxy Research has not confirmed whether the same operator is behind it.

Separately, Bitcoin treasury firm Strategy disclosed Monday it sold 1,638 bitcoin for about $105 million between July 27 and Aug. 2, its third sale of 2026, per an SEC filing. The average price was $63,957, well below the company's $75,419 average cost basis, and proceeds went to preferred dividends and STRC buvbacks rather than back into bitcoin

Prusak departs for Giga Energy Matt Prusak, president and interim chief financial officer of Trump-linked bitcoin miner American Bitcoin (ABTC), is leaving the company to join Al and energy infrastructure developer Giga Energy, marking another senior executive move toward the power sector that is increasingly underpinning both bitcoin $BTC$63,637.81 mining and artificial intelligence.

Prusak said he will step down from American Bitcoin effective Aug. 4 and join Giga Energy as chief business officer and interim CFO.

He said in emailed comments that after "years building bitcoin businesses," he was shifting "upstream to the power infrastructure now constraining both mining and Al compute."

The departure reflects a broader shift as bitcoin miners reposition around Al and power infrastructure. As mining becomes increasingly commoditized and margins come under pressure, a growing number of miners are pivoting toward artificial intelligence infrastructure, repurposing their power, land and data center expertise to serve the surging demand for Al compute.

The shift has accelerated as hyperscalers race to secure electricity and capacity, allowing mining companies to diversify revenue beyond bitcoin production and tap the higher valuations being awarded to Al infrastructure businesses.

The executive had served as president of American Bitcoin, the Nasdaq-listed mining company backed by Hut 8 (HUT) and co-founded by Eric Trump, while also acting as interim finance chief.

Bhutan's GMC puts part of its bitcoin treasury to work after 10,000 BTC pledge

Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), a special administrative region in southern Bhutan, awarded 3iQ Corp. a mandate to manage part of its bitcoin $BTC$63,607.21 treasury, the firms said in an email.

GMC declined to disclose the size of the mandate to CoinDesk.

How the money will be run is the new information. GMC told CoinDesk it selected the Toronto-based company to generate long-term returns through a low-risk, market-neutral investment approach, meaning the reserve is to be deployed for yield rather than simply held.

First U.S. spot bitcoin ETF to close as inflows dwindle, investors chase AI returns
Crypto asset manager Hashdex is set to close and liquidate its $14.7 million spot bitcoin $BTC$63,518.30 exchange-traded fund, in what may be the first liquidation of a U.S. spot bitcoin offering.

Bitcoin futures ETFs have closed before, including VanEck’s XBTF in 2024, but no U.S. fund holding bitcoin directly appears to have previously been liquidated.

Hashdex cited an evaluation of the fund’s assets under management, liquidity, operating costs, investor interest and its place within the company’s broader product lineup when announcing the closure.

Flows into the ETFs, which were first approved in January 2024, have dwindled as investors chased the better returns offered by AI-related investments. Taken as a group, the funds have seen net outflows in each of the past three months, according to data from SoSoValue.

“Much of the market views the opportunity cost of holding $BTC as too high while anything AI-related soars,” K33 Research head Vetle Lunde wrote in a June report.

BlackRock’s iShares Future AI & Tech ETF gained 39% through July and held $3.6 billion in assets while the crypto market fell roughly 36%, based on the CoinDesk 20 (CD20) Index.

The Hashdex Bitcoin ETF (DEFI) is the smallest of the U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs by net assets and recorded the lowest cumulative net inflows, according to SoSoValue data. The second-smallest, WisdomTree’s BTCW, has $142.4 million in net assets. Market leader BlackRock’s IBIT holds $47.08 billion in net assets.

DEFI’s final day of trading will be Aug. 17, after which it will start selling its remaining bitcoin and distribute the cash proceeds to shareholders, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The fund’s failure to gain traction contrasts with the growth of the broader U.S. spot bitcoin ETF market, which holds $77.6 billion in net assets
