Strategy Buys 520 More Bitcoin, Lifts Cash Reserve to $1.4B

Strategy added 520 BTC and $300 million in cash last week, raising its USD reserve to $1.4 billion as its STRC shares stay under pressure.
Strategy (MSTR) added a modest amount of Bitcoin (BTC) to its balance sheet last week while also building up its cash reserves. The company, led by Michael Saylor, sold about 2.7 million shares of its common stock to raise the funds, according to a Monday filing.

The stock sale brought in $335.5 million. Strategy used roughly $35 million of that to buy 520 BTC at an average price of $67,068 per coin. The remaining $300 million went into the company's cash reserve, bringing that total to $1.4 billion.

The new purchase brings Strategy's total Bitcoin holdings to 847,363 BTC. The company has now spent roughly $64.01 billion acquiring its Bitcoin, working out to an average cost of $75,651 per coin.

The cash buildup is meant to support dividend payments on Strategy's preferred stock, STRC. The security is designed to trade close to its $100 par value, but investors have grown increasingly uneasy about whether the company can keep funding those dividends.

That unease came to a head Thursday, when panic selling pushed STRC to a record low below $83 before it recovered some ground into the close. STRC ended Thursday's session down 0.46% at $88.59. By Monday's premarket session, it had climbed to $90.59, still well below its $100 par value.

Bitcoin advocate Samson Mow wrote on X Monday that STRC has what he called a self-repairing mechanism. He explained that when the stock trades below $100, Strategy halts new share issuance through its at-the-market program, which limits supply. Mow said lower prices also raise the effective yield for new buyers, which can spur demand and help push the price back up.

$XRP and Stellar’s $XLM are testing one of their longest-running market relationships after the two assets began moving at different speeds.

Both tokens have frequently followed similar price cycles, including major rallies, corrections, and extended consolidation periods. Analyst Bird’s latest chart, however, shows $XLM moving above its bearish structure while $XRP stays near the lower end of its range.

That difference has led traders to watch whether $XRP will eventually follow Stellar’s advance or whether the two assets are entering a period of genuine price decoupling.

$XLM Breakout Leaves $XRP Behind
The comparative chart shows $XRP and $XLM tracking one another closely through much of 2024 and 2025. Both recorded sharp gains late in 2024, reached local highs, and then moved through a prolonged decline as market momentum weakened.

Their paths began to separate near the latest lows. $XLM reacted strongly following recent DTCC-related news and moved above the descending structure that had controlled its price during the bear market.$XRP has not produced the same breakout. It remains near the lower section of its wider range after struggling to hold previous recovery attempts.

The gap is notable since the two assets share a history in cross-border payments and were created by projects with overlapping origins. Market participants have therefore often traded them as related assets, even though their networks, token economics, and development strategies operate separately.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, focused on Hut 8's all-stock merger with USBTC, which closed in November 2023.

Investors alleged the company, which now focuses on Al data centers and high-performance computing, overstated the transaction's benefits while failing to disclose persistent energy curtailment and internet connectivity issues at King Mountain, a Texas bitcoin mining joint venture in which USBTC held a 50% interest.

The litigation gained momentum after short seller J Capital Research published a critical report in January 2024, prompting a slide of more than 23% in Hut 8's share price.

According to a court filing, the $2.35 million recovery represents roughly 19.6% of the estimated maximum recoverable damages, exceeding the 12.9% median and 14.6% average recovery rates for Securities Act-only settlements in 2025.

As part of the agreement, Hut 8 denies any wrongdoing or liability. Hut 8 shares have gained more than 640% over the past year.
