NexoNexo takes a broader approach to crypto earning by combining staking, lending, and borrowing services within a single platform. One of its standout features is Ethereum staking, where users receive NETH in exchange for their staked ETH. £286B UK Giant Baillie Gifford launches tokenized fund on Ethereum, Solana

Baillie Gifford, a 118-year-old fund manager overseeing approximately £286 billion, has launched the Enhanced Yield Fund, marketed under the ticker BAGEY. The fund entered into a partnership with custody giant BNY to launch BAGEY, which will run entirely on the blockchain.

The enhanced yield fund is now the UK’s first fully tokenized investment fund, and unlike most “tokenized” products that just slap a digital wrapper on a traditional structure, this one is supposed to live entirely onchain.

The fund is structured as a UK-regulated Open-Ended Investment Company denominated in dollars and invested in an actively managed portfolio of short-term corporate bonds.

According to the fund manager, BNY will handle tokenization and wallet plumbing, while NatWest Trustee and Depositary Services will handle depositary duties. Investors can expect a yield of around 7%. The fund is currently limited to qualified investors in the UK, Switzerland, and the Cayman Islands.

Baillie Gifford fronts BAGEY as the real tokenization
Theo Golden, head of digital assets and tokenization at Baillie Gifford, contrasted the fund with what most of the industry has been calling “tokenization” so far. He argued that digitizing old infrastructure will not, by itself, improve finance. Golden pointed out that BAGEY offers a structurally different approach, as it runs entirely onchain unlike other “tokenized” funds.

Baillie Gifford pointed out that most tokenized funds in the market are wrappers, as they don’t entirely operate onchain as intended.

Unlike most tokenized funds, BAGEY will run entirely onchain, meaning investors hold the fund directly, with the chain doing the legal bookkeeping rather than just mirroring it.

A notable development has occurred in the market, with SK Hynix stocks experiencing a decline of over 12% today. Meanwhile, the Southern 2x Long SK Hynix ETF, a leveraged stock fund, has seen significant growth, with its value increasing more than tenfold since its launch in October last year. The fund, managed by Southern Asset Management, now has a size of nearly 17 billion, doubling the daily performance of SK Hynix stocks. This substantial growth has led to concerns about the fund's potential impact on the market, particularly given that a 5% fluctuation in Hynix's stock price would require the fund to adjust by 1.7 billion. That's the conclusion from an indicator that might seem to signal a bearish shift in sentiment but has tended to presage a more bullish outlook.

The indicator is based on two moving averages: Bitcoin’s 50-week simple moving average (SMA) and the 100-week average. The 50-week average, representing roughly one year, is very close to dropping below the 100-week line. A shorter-term measure is often seen as a more accurate reflection of recent attitudes, so the cross would trigger what analysts call a "bear cross." At current trajectories, it could happen as soon as next week.

While that might sound scary to bulls, it is potentially positive news.

There have been three such bear crosses in bitcoin's history, and each marked a market bottom, signaling the end of a decline and the beginning of a three-year rally. The impending cross, therefore, suggests the bear market has nearly run its course and the bottom is near.

Critics would argue that three past instances aren't enough to draw a definite conclusion. While that is true, the contrarian record of the bear cross is consistent with the reputation of ultra-long-duration moving averages as "lagging" indicators.
