Ripple, a developer of blockchain-based payment solutions, has taken a significant step towards expanding its operations in the European Union market.

The company announced that it has received preliminary approval from the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), Luxembourg’s financial regulatory body, for a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license, which is required under the European Union’s Crypto Asset Market Regulation (MiCA).

According to a statement by Ripple, the company will obtain a full CASP license after fulfilling the remaining requirements in the licensing process. This will allow Ripple to offer crypto asset services to financial institutions and businesses in 30 countries within the European Economic Area (EEA).

The company already holds an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license in the European Union. Ripple management stated that the eventual approval of the CASP license would significantly expand their current regulatory authority and allow them to offer more comprehensive services to their customers in Europe.

Leverage Reset Shifts Focus to Spot Demand
Bitcoin’s futures market has undergone a sharp leverage reset. Traders are now watching whether the next move will be driven by spot demand rather than derivatives speculation. Data shared by Cryptoquant on June 22 showed total $BTC Open Interest across exchanges falling from $26.0 billion to $20.89 billion during June.

The drop in futures exposure outpaced the decline in price. Bitcoin fell from roughly $71,200 at the start of the month to $63,234 by June 21, down 11.4%, while Open Interest contracted 19.5%, indicating futures exposure was reduced more aggressively than the decline in $BTC price.

Referring to the decline in futures positioning and the reduction in leveraged exposure across the market, the analyst stated:

“So far, the data shows that excess leverage has been reduced.”

Traders often track the relationship between price and Open Interest to assess market structure. During the first week of June, $BTC fell to a local low of $60,900 on June 6 while Open Interest dropped from $26.0 billion to about $22.4 billion, a pattern consistent with liquidations and position reductions rather than a buildup of new leveraged positions.

The chart labeled this period a “ Leverage Reset,” with both price and Open Interest declining together. That differs from a price drop accompanied by rising Open Interest, which can signal growing speculative positioning.

Markets are currently pricing in a slower pace of easing from the Fed compared to the European Central Bank, a dynamic that has kept the dollar well-bid against the euro.

Talks between the US and Iran, which have raised hopes for a potential de-escalation in Middle East tensions, provided a brief moment of relief for risk-sensitive currencies but failed to alter the euro’s trajectory. Analysts noted that any geopolitical risk premium reduction was offset by the euro zone’s own structural challenges.

The euro zone economy continues to face headwinds from sluggish manufacturing data, weak consumer demand, and political uncertainty in key member states. The ECB’s recent decision to hold rates steady, while signaling potential cuts later in the year, has further undermined the euro’s appeal.

“The market is focusing on the rate differential,” said a senior currency strategist at a London-based bank. “As long as the Fed remains hesitant to cut and the ECB appears more dovish, the euro will struggle to recover meaningfully.”
