EU to Impose €10K Cash Limit and Ban on Anonymous Crypto Accounts

The European Union is preparing one of its biggest anti-money laundering reforms in years. Starting in July 2027, the new Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (EU) 2024/1624 will introduce stricter controls on cash payments, cryptocurrency transactions, and several high-risk industries. 

The goal is to create a single rulebook across all EU member states and make it harder for criminals to move money through traditional finance or digital assets.

EU Introduces €10,000 Cash Payment Limit
One of the most significant changes is a bloc-wide limit on large cash transactions.

Under the new regulation, businesses will no longer be allowed to accept commercial cash payments above €10,000. While some EU countries already have their own cash restrictions, this creates a common rule across the entire bloc.

Member states can still introduce lower limits if they choose. The regulation also introduces additional checks for smaller transactions. 

Businesses will be required to verify customer identities for cash payments of €3,000 or more.
Private transactions between individuals remain exempt.
Bank deposits and payments through regulated financial institutions are also not affected.
Meanwhile, EU regulators believe large cash transactions remain one of the easiest ways to hide illicit funds. Therefore, setting cash limits is an important part of the new framework.

Crypto Exchanges Face Tougher KYC Rules
The regulation also introduces major changes for crypto companies operating in Europe.

Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASPs), including exchanges and other regulated crypto businesses, will need to perform enhanced Know Your Customer (KYC) checks on certain transactions.

Under the new rules, occasional or one-time crypto transactions worth €1,000 or more will trigger stricter identity verification requirements.

XRP Confirms Death Cross, Is $1 Next Level?

$XRP completed a death cross on its hourly chart after selling pressure intensified this week.

The 50 MA has fallen below the 200 MA on the hourly chart, indicating a death cross. This follows four straight days of declines from Tuesday to Friday, with $XRP reaching a low of $1.11.

$XRP gave back more of last week's rally, which saw it rise to a high of $1.29 on June 15. $XRP price began its rebound on June 11 from a low of $1.09, reaching the daily MA 50 where it encountered resistance. The rally faced selling pressure, with $XRP declining and a short-term death cross appearing in the aftermath.

Cardano Price Under Pressure with Bears Tightening Their GripCardano price bearish sentiment is strengthening as ADA’s long/short ratio fell below 1 and futures open interest dropped to $348 million, signaling weaker trader confidence.
On-chain data points to capitulation, with Santiment’s NPL metric showing investors are increasingly selling ADA at a loss.
ADA remains in a downtrend, with $0.148 emerging as the key support level that traders are watching amid ongoing selling pressure.
Cardano price kept dropping in mid-June. The price of ADA soared over the past 24 hours to $0.16, then fell by over 2% as of the 18th of June.

The ADA futures long/short account ratio is approaching 0.9, according to CoinGlass. A value below 1 indicates that more contracts are being held short than long. ADA crypto futures open interest has also decreased to approximately $348 million, which is approximately a multi-week low.

The bearish trend continues as on-chain analytics show Santiment’s Network Realized Profit/Loss dropped on June 17. That suggests many holders are exiting at a loss. All these indicators are a combined sign of strong selling pressure on Cardano price.

DeFi activity remains weak despite rising on-chain liquidity.

The XRP Ledger TVL has experienced a steep decline over the past year, even as stablecoin activity on the network continues to grow. According to DefiLlama data, total value locked on the XRP Ledger has fallen from nearly $120 million in July 2025 to approximately $39 million today. That represents a drop of roughly 67% in less than twelve months.

Crypto Mom' Hester Peirce Announces Exit From SECHester Peirce, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) official affectionately dubbed "Crypto Mom" by the digital asset industry, has confirmed her upcoming departure from the agency during her appearance on the "Rollup" podcast.

Peirce will be leaving the SEC this November and "moving to the beach" after nearly three decades in Washington, D.C.

Peirce's final priorities include pushing for regulatory changes that allow more companies to go public earlier, eliminating the trade-through rule, and, most notably, clearing the runway for a comprehensive regulatory crypto framework.

"Crypto Mom"
Hester Peirce was initially sworn into office back in January 2018. She was then renominated in 2020 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in August 2020.

Her term officially expired on June 5, 2025, but U.S. law allows SEC commissioners to continue serving in their roles for up to 18 months if a successor has not been named and confirmed.

The extension allowed Peirce to remain at the agency until early December 2026. However, her recent announcement confirms she will cut this extension slightly short. She will join Regent University School of Law as an associate professor.

"I'm going to be teaching law school. So, I'm excited about working with the next generation. And I always look at what we've done, and we've left a lot of problems for the next generation to solve. And so, I want to be part of preparing people who will grab those problems and fix them," she said.

The regulatory body will be reduced to just two active sitting members: Chairman Paul Atkins and Commissioner Mark Uyeda. There are no Democratic-appointed commissioners remaining at the agency.
