Argentina has taken a step in the right direction to democratize access to alternative financial platforms in the country.

President Javier Milei has issued an executive order declaring tax exemptions for virtual asset service providers (VASPs) registered in Argentina. The measure aims to increase the inclusion of crypto exchanges in the Argentine financial products market, leveling the playing field with traditional institutions.
The “debt and credit” tax, commonly known as “cheque” in Spanish, affected flows going in and out of crypto exchanges since November 2021, when former President Alberto Fernandez issued executive order 796/2021, which included traditional banks in these exemptions but explicitly excluded operations involving crypto assets.

Executive Order 475/2026 extends these exemptions to VASPs, stating that it was necessary to “adapt the regulations applicable to certain actors in light of technological advances and the resulting new regulatory framework, and, on the other hand, to equalize the conditions of entities that—while carrying out activities of a similar nature—are subject to different tax treatment.”

Now, these 1.2% savings will be extended to customers, as exchanges are poised to become more competitive, lowering deposit and withdrawal fees previously impacted by this surcharge.

Local industry figureheads celebrated the measure, stressing that it would benefit both consumers and the adoption of crypto assets in Argentina. Julian Colombo, Senior Director for South America at Bitso, highlighted that this would evolve into more crypto-based products being created.

Most Litecoin nodes ignore patch for double-spending bug

Earlier this year, a hacker tried to double-spend litecoin ($LTC) before an emergency, 13-block reorganization thwarted the attack.

Even though developers have released a flurry of code patches to prevent a repeat, most of the Litecoin network’s nodes have still not installed the fix.

The patch has been available for free download for nearly two months. Nonetheless, of the nodes tracked by a major monitoring service, less than 30% are running up-to-date software that would reject the type of transactions behind April’s double-spending attempt.

Sadly, the largest cohort of node operators on the Litecoin network by software version run v0.21.4. This vulnerable version is live on roughly 39% of reachable nodes, most of which are non-mining.

Fortunately, most mining Litecoin nodes have updated their software, despite most validating nodes, which comprise the majority of the network, still operating with old, buggy code.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Military and Foreign Affairs will examine the national security implications of digital finance and the role of cryptocurrency in expanding financial access under restrictive regimes. Chairman William Timmons (R-SC) will lead the session in Washington.

The discussion will focus on how decentralized financial tools are being used in economically unstable or authoritarian environments to maintain access to funds, services, and economic autonomy. Participants are also expected to explore how U.S. leadership in digital finance could affect economic competitiveness and broader foreign policy objectives.

The announcement states:

“The roundtable will examine the ways digital assets like cryptocurrency can empower individuals living in repressive or economically unstable nations.”

Participants include Dustin Palmer, Bank Secrecy Act officer at Anchorage Digital Bank; Jorge Jraissati, president of Economic Inclusion Group; and Cody Carbone, chief executive officer of The Digital Chamber.

Timmons framed the roundtable around digital finance, authoritarian control, and U.S. strategic interests. The session, “Two Sides of a Digital Coin: Protecting U.S. Security by Challenging the Power of Repressive Foreign Regimes,” is open to the public and will be livestreamed.
