Bhutan ‘doesn’t recall’ selling any bitcoin, disputing widely-tracked $1 billion BTC drawdownBhutan, a small Asian country nestled in the Himalayas and the second nation after El Salvador to officially mine and hold bitcoin, has reportedly been selling its stash.

In fact, according to data analytics firm Arkham Intelligence's data, the country might have sold $1 billion worth of bitcoin since July 2025.

Wallets attributed to Druk Holding and Investments (DHI), the kingdom of Bhutan’s sovereign wealth fund, have moved approximately $207 million in bitcoin out this year alone to various exchanges and trading firms, per Arkham's data.

Holdings in the Arkham-tagged wallets have dropped from roughly 13,000 $BTC in October 2024 to around 3,100 $BTC on Friday, worth $252 million as of Friday evening India time. The outflows have accelerated through 2026 to the point that Arkham estimates Bhutan will have sold all its remaining bitcoin by October if the current pace holds.

Coinbase deal sparks debate over Hyperliquid’s tokenomics shift 

Hyperliquid’s perpetual positioning remains unshaken, with perp volume continuing to dominate.

According to DeFiLlama, the 30-day perpetual volume on the network is around $176 billion, compared to GMX at $23 billion.

To put this into perspective, Hyperliquid’s trading volume is nearly 8x higher than the next closest protocol, reinforcing its dominant position in the perp DEX market.

Against this backdrop, two key aspects of its partnership with Coinbase start to matter more. The main driver here is stablecoin yield and staking. T

hrough the partnership, Coinbase has increased its exposure to HYPE staking. More importantly, the arrangement enables USDC yield sharing, which analysts estimate could generate over $140 million in annual revenue for Hyperliquid.

Bitcoin whale activity is seeing a resurgence that could prove net positive for an asset that has failed to convincingly clear the $82,000 level for weeks.

However, buying volume across the broader market remains thin, tempering the immediate outlook. Whales are investors who control large amounts of liquidity and whose actions can materially shift the supply-demand dynamics of an asset.

Their counterpart in the market is retail investors, who typically operate as short-term holders with a lower conviction threshold and a greater tendency to sell during volatility.

BoE Calls Stablecoin Plans ‘Overly Conservative’
On Thursday, the Bank of England’s Deputy Governor for financial stability, Sarah Breeden, revealed that the central bank is preparing to ease its controversial regulatory plans for stablecoins.

In an interview with Financial Times (FT), Breeden admitted that the regulator’s proposal may have been “overly conservative” and that the financial regulator was “looking very hard” at potential solutions.

The BoE proposed a temporary cap on stablecoin ownership in a November consultation paper to “mitigate financial stability risks stemming from large and rapid outflows of deposits from the banking sector.”

The restriction aimed to set holding limits of £10,000 to £20,000 for individuals and £10 million for businesses, resembling its proposed approach to the digital pound, which also sought to address financial stability risks.

Additionally, the central bank proposed that systemic stablecoin issuers hold at least 40% of reserves backing the token as unremunerated deposits at the central bank to ensure “robust redemption and public confidence, even under stress.”

In March, Breeden had already signaled openness to reviewing BoE’s proposals during a meeting with the House of Lords Financial Services Regulation Committee. At the time, she recognized the cap’s technical difficulties but argued that they “are there to support an orderly transition as the shape of the system changes.”

In the medium term, XRP remains inside a broader stabilization and recovery phase after significant correction pressure earlier in 2026. The breakout above $1.40 improved overall market structure and shifted short-term sentiment back toward cautious optimism.

Momentum currently remains neutral-to-bullish while XRP holds above support zones, although stronger continuation above resistance is still required before a larger breakout trend becomes fully confirmed.
