Analysts at Bernstein said Coinbase is making progress diversifying beyond spot crypto trading, with its derivatives, prediction markets, and payments lines beginning to contribute meaningful revenue.

The analysts maintained an outperform rating and $330 price target on Coinbase stock despite weaker first-quarter results tied to softer crypto market conditions.

Bernstein said Coinbase (COIN) is beginning to show signs that its push to become an "everything exchange" is working, despite the company reporting weaker-than-expected first-quarter results on Thursday.

In a note to clients on Friday, the research and brokerage firm's analysts, led by Gautam Chhugani, maintained an outperform rating and $330 price target on Coinbase stock following earnings, implying 71% upside potential from Thursday's closing price of 192.96, according to The Block's COIN price page.

Coinbase's revenue for the quarter came in at $1.41 billion, missing estimates by 5%, while adjusted EBITDA of $303 million fell 26% short of expectations. The company also posted a net loss of $394.1 million, reflecting $482 million in unrealized losses tied to its crypto investment portfolio. Bernstein said weaker crypto markets weighed on both trading activity and subscription revenue, with total crypto market capitalization and industry trading volumes both down more than 20% from the prior quarter. 

Coinbase's total spot trading volume dropped 25% quarter-over-quarter to $202 billion in the first quarter. Retail trading volume fell 36% to $36 billion, while monthly transacting users declined 10% to 8.2 million.

What was once a niche corner of the internet has landed in one of America’s most famous buildings.

Kalshi, which bills itself as the world’s largest prediction market, has signed a multi-year deal with Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp., making it an official prediction market partner of MSG and its broadcast arm, MSG Networks.

As part of the deal, the sixth-floor concourse inside the arena will carry Kalshi’s name going forward.

The company will also appear on digital boards outside the venue and LED screens inside the bowl during concerts and comedy shows.

Kalshi takes the Garden

“As leaders in live entertainment, we are always searching for opportunities to partner with forward-thinking brands on innovative partnerships, and as such, are proud to welcome Kalshi as the first prediction market partner of Madison Square Garden,” said Doug Jossem, Executive Vice President of Global Sports and Entertainment Partnerships at MSG Entertainment.

Adam Barrick, Head of Sports Partnerships at Kalshi, called the deal a landmark moment.

“Madison Square Garden is an iconic staple in the lineage of New York cultural history and we couldn’t be more thrilled to officially become a part of the MSG family,” he said. “Partnering with ‘The World’s Most Famous Arena’ is a major milestone in Kalshi’s history.”

The collaboration comes at a time when prediction markets are monitoring everything from diseases to political contests.
