AI-powered Genius Group has sold off its remaining Bitcoin holdings in the first quarter to pay down debt. Summary Genius Group sold its remaining Bitcoin in Q1 to repay debt, stepping back from its earlier commitment to hold the majority of reserves in BTC. The company reported a turnaround in performance, with revenue reaching $3.3 million and net profit at $2.7 million after a loss a year earlier. According to an April 1 press release, the company said it will “recommence building its Bitcoin Treasury when it believes market conditions are more favorable,” outlining that the exit is tied to timing rather than a full departure from its digital asset strategy. The firm first committed to a “Bitcoin first” approach back in November 2024, stating that 90% or more of its reserves would be held in BTC. The latest move marks a break from that position as liquidity needs took priority. Its Bitcoin balance had been declining since April 2025, when a US court temporarily blocked treasury expansion. The company resumed purchases in June, but the latest sale has now reduced its holdings to zero, according to data from Bitcoin Treasuries. Revenue for the quarter rose 171% year-on-year to $3.3 million, while gross profit increased 228% to $2 million. A $500,000 operating loss recorded in Q1 2025 turned into a $2.7 million net profit in Q1 2026. Similar decisions have surfaced across the sector as companies adjust balance sheets. MARA Holdings sold 15,133 BTC in March for roughly $1.1 billion, reducing its treasury to 38,689 BTC and pushing it down to the third-largest corporate holder. The bulk of the proceeds went toward repurchasing about $1 billion in convertible senior notes, with the remainder allocated to general corporate use. The conversation around companies holding Bitcoin has become almost routine: Bitcoin is hard money, fiat currency loses value over time, and companies that keep Bitcoin on their balance sheets are making a rational long-term decision. While all of this is true, it’s not the most interesting question anymore.
The real question is structural: not whether a company should hold Bitcoin, but what kind of company should hold it—and how that choice affects its performance across a full market cycle, not just during favorable conditions.
Three main models have emerged, each reflecting a different level of conviction, capital structure, and trade-offs:
The Pure-Play – A company whose primary purpose is accumulating Bitcoin through capital raises, financial engineering, or similar methods, without a core operating business. This model is lean and singularly focused.
The Digital Credit Issuer – A sophisticated evolution of the pure-play model. These companies issue Bitcoin-backed financial products such as preferred stock or convertible notes to fund ongoing accumulation. At scale, this creates a compounding engine for Bitcoin accumulation that simpler models can’t match.
The Operating Company with a Bitcoin Treasury – A traditional business with real revenue, clients, and operations, which holds Bitcoin as a long-term reserve. The asset is strategically integrated into the company’s broader business plan rather than being the sole focus.
All three models are valid expressions of the Bitcoin treasury thesis, but they serve different purposes. Understanding these differences is more important than most treasury discussions suggest.
Why the Pure-Play Works
The pure-play model deserves serious attention because its strongest version can be highly effective. Financially engineered pure-plays are extremely capital-efficient: every dollar raised goes directly into Bitcoin accumulation, without operational distractions.

Solana is testing one of its most important short term levels while a broader chart still points to more downside risk. One setup shows buyers repeatedly defending the $80 zone, but another suggests that if this support fails, $SOL could face a much deeper drop.

Solana Chart Signals More Downside as Bearish Pattern Targets Lower Support Zone

A chart shared by X user Hardy showed Solana still under pressure after a failed recovery near the $91 to $99 resistance area. The chart marked a rising wedge style structure after February’s sharp drop, with price trading near $79 at the time of posting. That setup pointed to weakening momentum, especially as $SOL stayed below the upper resistance band and moved close to the lower boundary of the pattern.

Moreover, the chart projected a bearish path if that lower trendline breaks. The drawn scenario showed a brief bounce, followed by another rejection and a deeper move lower. In that case, the next major support zone appeared far below the current price, around the $45 area, while an even lower historical zone sat near $27 to $30. As a result, the chart suggested that Solana could face another leg down if buyers fail to defend the current structure.

At the same time, the broader trend on the chart remained negative. $SOL had already fallen sharply from levels above $200 before entering this narrow consolidation range. Because that pause came after a steep decline, the pattern looked more like a temporary base inside a downtrend than a confirmed reversal. Therefore, the chart’s message was clear: unless Solana reclaims the upper resistance zone with strength, downside risk remains in focus.

That move reversed after fresh market pressure, sending Bitcoin down to $65,700 later the same day. Since then, the asset has traded in a narrow range.
