With market conditions turning suitable, whales have taken the opportunity to re-enter the market.

Hyperliquid whale adds $2.3 million worth of HYPE
Whales have continued to accumulate HYPE, especially as it shows strong upside momentum. According to Lookonchain, a newly created wallet deposited $5 million into HyperLiquid and began buying HYPE after it crossed the $40 mark.

So far, the whale has purchased 59.2k HYPE worth $2.3 million. Still, the account holds $2.6 million in USDC, likely to be used for more purchases. With HYPE holding above the entry price, the whale is already up $10k.

Usually, when whales enter the market during an uptrend, it signals confidence and helps defend higher levels.

Coupled with that, whales have seen their profit margin surge amid the recent gains. Onchain Lens reported that a whale who held a 5x long position since the 6th of December 2025 is now erasing all losses.

After HYPE dropped below $20, this whale saw his position go down by over $26 million. Despite the deep, the whale kept covering his position, losing $1.9 million in funding fees in the process.

However, with HYPE now trading above $40, the whale’s floating profit is over $2.77 million. Such determination to hold a losing position for five months showed confidence in the market.

Besides this whale, the market has seen an influx in demand for long positions. Coinalyze data showed that the altcoin’s Long/Short Ratio rose to 1.41, with 58.5% of positions held by longs.

This implied that most market participants flipped bullish and deployed capital, betting on the prevailing trend’s continuation.

By staking, users lock their $ETH to help secure the blockchain and validate transactions, earning rewards in return. However, this comes with a key trade-off—staked $ETH is not freely tradable, which directly reduces the amount of liquid supply available in the market.

Supply Tightening and Price Implications

With over 39 million $ETH staked, the circulating supply continues to shrink. Less $ETH available on exchanges leads to lower immediate selling pressure and increases the market’s sensitivity to demand spikes. This dynamic is often described as a potential “supply shock” scenario.

When supply tightens and demand rises, price movements can become more pronounced. If new capital enters—whether from institutions, ETFs, or retail investors—even relatively small inflows can have an outsized impact. This creates conditions where upward price momentum can accelerate quickly.

At the same time, high staking participation signals strong conviction among holders. Investors are choosing to lock their assets for long-term rewards rather than sell, reinforcing a bullish structural outlook for Ethereum.

Risks, Opportunities, and the Bigger Shift

Despite the positive outlook, staking introduces certain risks. Reduced liquidity can amplify volatility during market swings. Large-scale unstaking events could release significant supply back into the market, creating temporary selling pressure. Network or protocol-related risks also remain a consideration.

Still, the broader trend is clear.

A similar-sized whale dumping of Bitcoin was seen in January. A $280 million wave of selling on the 10th of January was followed by a deep price correction below the $90k level a few days later.

The news of whale selling came alongside institutional holders opting to sell Bitcoin as well. AMBCrypto reported that the Bitcoin mining firm Cango (CANG) had sold 2,000 BTC in March as part of a “planned transition into energy and AI infrastructure.”

Despite the selling pressure, the price of Bitcoin continued to float in the $65k-$72k area over the past month. The range formation in recent weeks and the local high at $76k were stern obstacles to the bulls.

The 30-day moving average of the net volume flow into and out of exchanges has been negative since the 3rd of March. This indicated accumulation as the price settled into a range and was an encouraging sign after the volatility of February.

Investors need to keep an eye on this metric. A slowdown in the accumulation trends combined with bearish price momentum in the lower timeframes would be a warning that BTC might be readying for another move downward.

Interestingly, the recent wave of whale selling was juxtaposed by the falling activity among large BTC entities. The relative activity metric tracks the momentum of activity from small and large entities.

According to the report released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday, the core Consumer Price Index increased by just 0.2% in March, compared to forecasts of 0.3%. The headline Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.9%, exactly in line with expectations. In year-over-year terms, core CPI stood at 2.6%, below the predicted 2.7%.

Bitcoin reaction was muted, but positive. Before the data release, Bitcoin was trading in a narrow range around $72,000. Shortly after the report was published, its price climbed to $72,400.

For markets, the key signal came from the core reading. It is seen as a more accurate measure of underlying inflation pressure and typically has a stronger influence on expectations for Federal Reserve policy. The softer core CPI data partly eased concerns that the Fed might keep its hawkish stance in place longer than previously expected.
