The Senate Banking Committee plans to hold its long-awaited markup hearing for the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act of 2025 (otherwise known as the Clarity Act) on Thursday, May 14 at 10:30 a.m.

The Clarity Act was largely in limbo after Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong announced the exchange was pulling its support over stablecoin yield and other provisions in January. Last week, Senators Thom Tillis and Angela Alsobrooks released a compromise text addressing yield, which would prohibit crypto companies from offering yield on static stablecoin reserve holdings but allowing rewards for stablecoins involved in activities, seemingly resolving one of the key issues blocking the bill from advancing.

The committee did not release the full text of the updated bill publicly as of press time.

The banking industry groups said they had issues with this compromise text and would provide feedback. A letter published by multiple banking trade associations, including the American Bankers Association, Bank Policy Institute, Independent Community Bankers of America, National Bankers Association and Consumer Bankers Association on Friday said "additional work is needed to arrive at text that embraces the innovation represented by digital assets while also protecting consumers."

The letter includes recommendations with specific edits to the text of the provision released last week.

The scheduling of a markup hearing suggests lawmakers are ready to move ahead with the current version of the text regardless of these concerns.

Russia and Ukraine agree to three-day ceasefire, Trump says
Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a three-day ceasefire and prisoner exchange starting Saturday, May 9. President Donald Trump announced the deal on May 8 via Truth Social, stating that all “kinetic activity” would be suspended through May 11.
Both sides confirmed the agreement independently. Previous ceasefire attempts during the conflict have collapsed before they could take hold, making mutual confirmation something close to a minor diplomatic event.
What the deal actually includes
The ceasefire covers three full days, from May 9 through May 11. The timing is deliberate: May 9 is Victory Day in Russia, the annual commemoration of the Soviet Union’s role in defeating Nazi Germany in World War II.

Alongside the pause in fighting, both nations agreed to a prisoner swap involving 1,000 prisoners from each side, totaling 2,000 people. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the “1,000 for 1,000” framework and said he had instructed his team to begin preparations.

US economy adds 115,000 jobs in April, unemployment steady at 4.3%

The US labor market just delivered its second consecutive month of solid job gains, with nonfarm payrolls growing by 115,000 positions in April 2026. That nearly doubled what economists had penciled in. The unemployment rate held firm at 4.3%.

A year ago, the monthly jobs number was basically a rounding error. The 2025 average came in at a paltry 10,000 jobs per month. So 115,000 feels less like a recovery and more like the labor market finally remembering how to walk after a long nap.

Where the jobs actually came from

The private sector did the heavy lifting, contributing 123,000 of those jobs. That means federal employment actually shrank.

Healthcare led the charge, adding 37,300 positions. Transportation and warehousing followed with 30,000 new roles. Retail trade rounded out the top three at 21,800.

Year-to-date, the economy is averaging 76,000 jobs per month in 2026. Compare that to the anemic 10,000 monthly average throughout 2025, and the trajectory looks encouraging.
