The BIS General Manager has said that existing stablecoins fall short of the requirements for a widely accepted and used payment instrument.

Stablecoins Remain A “Niche” Payment Instrument
Pablo Hernández de Cos, General Manager at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), spoke on the topic of stablecoins at a Bank of Japan seminar in Tokyo on Monday. The BIS is an international financial institution that serves as a bank for central banks. It’s owned by constituent central banks, of which there are 63 in total at the moment. The institution has been vocal about its concerns regarding stablecoins in the past.

Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies that have their price tied to a fiat currency. In recent years, these tokens have gained popularity, inviting regulation from major economic hubs.

Since stables run on blockchain technology, they naturally offer relatively cheap 24/7 transactions. This has made their main use, besides being a store of value, as a mode of payments.

Stablecoins try to mimic fiat currencies, but do they count as “money”? de Cos has discussed the two features that decide the “moneyness” of an instrument: singleness and interoperability.

First, singleness is the idea that different forms of money should be perfectly substitutable at par across financial intermediaries and platforms. In fiat economics, this is facilitated by central banks. For the decentralized stablecoins, there is no such central settlement so deviations can emerge.

Though, these differences tend to be relatively modest. “Yet confidence shocks can widen discounts abruptly and, when they do, users may refuse to accept certain stablecoins, as seen on several occasions in the past,” said de Cos.

The other property, interoperability, means that users can send and receive funds seamlessly across platforms and networks. Today, stablecoins are distributed across a wide range of blockchains, so even versions of the same token that run on different blockchains aren’t interoperabl

In addition to the price action and expert predictions, blockchain analytics platform Chainspect showed that Stellar processed over 12,957,223 transactions on the 20th of April, marking an increase of 2,891,644 from the 10,065,579 recorded on the 24th of Marc

This notable surge has pushed XLM’s network transactions to a quarterly high and has further strengthened the asset’s bullish outlook.

Derivative platform CoinGlass has further reinforced this bullish outlook, as intraday traders are eyeing long-leveraged positions.

Data from the XLM exchange liquidation map shows that traders are over-leveraged at $0.1675 on the lower side and $0.1879 on the upper side.

In fact, at these levels, they have built $3.48 million worth of long-leveraged positions and $857.25k worth of short-leveraged positions, indicating that bulls are dominating the asset and anticipating further upside.

“Finding Satoshi” makes the case that Hal Finney and Len Sassaman were Bitcoin’s co-creators, documenting the latest effort to uncover Nakamoto’s identity.

The film follows a four-year investigation led by New York Times bestselling author William D. Cohan and private investigator Tyler Maroney.

For most of the 18 years since the nine-page Bitcoin ￼BTC+3.61%￼

 whitepaper was published on Oct. 31, 2008, amid the turmoil of the great financial crisis, many have rightly or wrongly speculated about the identity of its pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.

Attempts to unveil Satoshi have continued ever since, spurred on by the pseudonymous creator's disappearance from public view in 2011. A Newsweek story in 2014 focused on Japanese American systems engineer Dorian Prentice Satoshi Nakamoto, while others theorized that Bitcoin could be a CIA-controlled project, to which one expert in the documentary quipped, "I don't think our government is competent enough to do something that smart."

While the ideas put forth in many similar documentaries were ultimately dismissed, "Finding Satoshi," directed by Tucker Tooley and Matthew Miele, attempts to avoid rehashing existing theories with a character-driven investigation that, while surfacing many familiar names, reaches an interesting conclusion.

The film, viewed in advance of its release by The Block, depicts a four-year investigation led by New York Times author, financial journalist, and former M&A investment banker William D. Cohan alongside Quest Research and Investigations' team of private investigators led by Tyler Maroney, drawing on experts across cryptography, programming, and linguistics.

To understand why this matters, it is important to know what AccountSet transactions actually do, as they are not ordinary transfers or trades. They are used to configure an account’s settings on the XRP Ledger. This includes permissions, setting operational flags, linking identity domains, and preparing accounts for features.

Because of that, spikes in AccountSet transactions are a reflection of backend activity. They show that accounts are being set up, adjusted, or prepared for more advanced use cases. In practical terms, it points to infrastructure being built, not just coins being moved.

In this instance, AccountSet transactions climbed past 120,000, and this is a scale of activity that normal users cannot produce.

The Broader Transaction Surge: Nearly Three Million Daily
The AccountSet spike is part of a wider explosion in ledger activity that the numbers make difficult to dismiss. Daily transaction volume on the XRP Ledger recently surged to almost 3 million, a near-tripling of the approximately 1 million transactions recorded per day in mid-2025, according to data published by Evernorth, the largest public XRP treasury
