Solana stablecoin supply near $16B ATH: Early Q2 rally signal?Over the years, the reasons for institutional investors staking digital assets have changed.

A few years ago, investors viewed digital assets mainly as speculative instruments. This led smart money to avoid them due to their high volatility.

However, blockchain use cases have expanded from tokenization and cross-border payments to staking. As a result, institutions have started accumulating utility-driven assets, with Solana standing out due to its fast and low-cost network.

More importantly, its stablecoin flows have strengthened. According to DeFiLlama, the total stablecoin supply on the network has jumped over 6% this week alone.

However, the key takeaway is that while USDT and USDC remain in the red, newer stablecoins are driving most of the inflows on Solana.Take Ethena’s $USDe stablecoin, for example.

Data from DeFiLlama shows $USDe is up over 1,300% on Solana [$SOL] over the past month. This reflects rapid adoption of yield-bearing and synthetic dollar assets within the ecosystem.

Additionally, $USDe trading volume has doubled to around $300 million overnight, indicating increased liquidity rotation into newer stablecoin instruments rather than legacy issuers.

From an on-chain perspective, this shift gives Solana an advantage in attracting institutional capital. However, its Total Value Locked (TVL) has dropped below $6 billion, returning to levels last seen in October 2024.

This suggests that while stablecoin activity is growing, users are holding less capital within DeFi protocols and rotating liquidity more frequently instead of keeping it locked.

This raises a key question: Are institutions currently more focused on price action than DeFi fundamentals, and could this setup increase the risk of a Q2 correction?

Crypto Quant Researcher Flags Major Dangerous Setup for Bitcoin Dating Back to February — Details
Bitcoin may be on the verge of a sharp market correction as on-chain data reveals a dangerous structural shift reminiscent of previous cyclical peaks.

According to Julio Moreno, Head of Research at blockchain analytics firm CryptoQuant, the rapid accumulation of unrealized profits among short-term traders is signaling an overextended market vulnerable to a near-term pullback.

The current setup stands in contrast to February, when traders endured extreme unrealized losses of nearly 27%, the deepest level of capitulation recorded since 2022. That severe undervaluation ultimately laid the groundwork for the recent massive price rally.

However, that momentum has now pushed unrealized profit margins back into dangerously elevated territory. Historically, such high concentrations of paper gains serve as a reliable leading indicator that a market cooling-off period is imminent in the coming weeks.

Compounding this risk is the instability in the positioning of short-term whale wallets. CryptoQuant data also reveals that Bitcoin is currently testing the aggregate cost basis of these short-term holders for the third time since October. This specific cohort, which has a realized price between $79,000 and $80,000, has historically shown far greater emotional reactivity and momentum-driven panic than long-term market participants.

The two previous times Bitcoin tested this specific threshold, the market experienced aggressive capitulation. In late October 2025 and January 2026, optimism briefly returned as unrealized losses compressed, but fading momentum forced these whales to rapidly distribute their holdings into weakness.

With bitcoin cementing itself as institutional crypto’s reserve asset, a new wave of infrastructure projects is looking to answer a longstanding question: What exactly should people do with it?

VerifiedX, a decentralized layer-1 blockchain and Bitcoin sidechain project, said the key to the answer lies in making the largest cryptocurrency programmable while preserving the core ethos that made it valuable in the first place.

“Bitcoin needs to be left alone,” Jay Pollak, head of strategy and business development at the VerifiedX Foundation, told CoinDesk in an interview. “People need to build around it and build utility with it.”

VerifiedX positions itself between bitcoin maximalists — supporters who say $BTC is the only digital asset anyone needs or holds any significant long-term value — and the sprawling decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem built around Ethereum and other blockchains.

Rather than converting bitcoin into representations like wrapped bitcoin (WBTC), in which custody of the original token passes to a third party, Pollak says the project enables “native” programmable bitcoin ownership through a self-custodial architecture using threshold signatures and taproot-based addresses.

The project refers to itself as both a sidechain and what Pollak calls a “reliever chain” — a term the company is trying to popularize to distinguish itself from existing scaling systems for the original blockchain.

“We’re not reinventing or changing Bitcoin,” he said. “You never leave the Bitcoin ecosystem.”

That distinction matters because Bitcoin DeFi is tiny even though bitcoin is crypto’s dominant asset. The total value locked in the ecosystem is just over $5 billion, according to DeFiLlama.
