Crypto wallets are being rebuilt for AI agents, Trust Wallet and Mesh executives say at Consensus Miami

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Crypto wallets are being rebuilt for AI agents, said executives from Trust Wallet and Mesh on Thursday, with companies racing to give autonomous software a way to hold value, prove identity and transact on-chain.

Appearing at CoinDesk Miami, Arjun Mukherjee, chief technology officer at Mesh, said the shift is driven by what he called the cold-start problem for AI agents.

“An agent can’t do anything until it has a wallet funded,” he said. “It’s very difficult for the agent to act until it has a wallet to do something, and it has value to transact with. And suddenly, enter crypto. Crypto has found its kind of niche, its killer app.”

Mesh, which builds a connectivity layer across exchanges, wallets, smart contracts and decentralized exchanges, has launched a product called Smart Funding that routes payments across chains, networks, accounts and tokens for both human and agent users.

Felix Fan, CEO of Trust Wallet, said the company is taking a deliberately bifurcated approach to agent integration. On its consumer crypto app, where users hold the keys, agents act as a copilot to simplify navigation and reduce friction without taking custodial control.

“Users always hold the keys and all these permissions. Every single step, they need to give consent,” Fan said. The agent’s role on the consumer side is to “speed up the process and also help them to better understand how to navigate on-chain.”

On the developer side, Trust Wallet has taken a more aggressive posture. The company recently launched an agent kit that lets agents autonomously make trades, transfers and other on-chain actions, and it is implementing EIP-8004, an Ethereum proposal that provides agents with on-chain identity and credit-style scores.

US Senate Committee to consider Clarity Act crypto bill next weekThe US Senate Banking Committee is set to markup the Clarity Act on May 14, a bipartisan bill that would establish the first comprehensive regulatory framework for digital assets in the country.

The Clarity Act, formally known as the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, would define the jurisdictional boundaries between the SEC and CFTC. In English: it would finally answer the question of whether a given token is a security or a commodity, and which agency gets to police it.

What the bill actually does

At its core, the Clarity Act is an attempt to replace what critics have called “regulation by enforcement” with an actual rulebook. Instead of the SEC suing projects after the fact and letting courts sort out the definitions, the bill would establish those definitions upfront.

Stablecoin regulation is also on the table. Banks have been pushing to ban stablecoin rewards, arguing that yield-bearing stablecoins undermine traditional deposit bases. Crypto firms, predictably, see it differently, framing stablecoin yields as a form of financial innovation that shouldn’t be strangled in the crib.

The bill has attracted bipartisan backing, with Senators Cynthia Lummis and Thom Tillis among its most vocal supporters. Both have been advocating for the legislation since late April 2026, working to build the coalition needed to push it through committee.

Crypto activists attempting to compel the Swiss National Bank (SNB) to include Bitcoin in its reserves failed to gather the necessary signatures for a referendum, reports Reuters.

Under Swiss law, 100,000 signatures were required within 18 months to bring the initiative to a national vote. However, the activists managed to collect only about half of the required number with just weeks remaining before the deadline.

“We knew from the start that it was a long shot. For now, we will let the initiative lapse, but progress towards the goal has been made,” said campaign founder Yves Bennaim.

The organizers of the Bitcoin Initiative proposed that the central bank hold the first cryptocurrency in its reserves alongside gold, dollars, and euros. They argued this would help diversify risks associated with fiat currencies.

The SNB has repeatedly opposed the idea of holding cryptocurrencies in its reserves. The head of the regulator, Martin Schlegel, pointed to high volatility, insufficient market depth, and the complexity of using digital assets for monetary policy purposes.

Last year, the price of Bitcoin fell by approximately 6.4%, and it has lost another 7.5% since the beginning of this year. However, with daily transaction volumes in the “tens of billions of dollars,” the asset is not illiquid, noted Bennaim.

According to him, the Bitcoin Initiative was an attempt to encourage the national bank to explore a technology that is transforming global finance.

“Bitcoin is an alternative to the dollar or euro, and like Switzerland, it is internationally neutral,” stated the crypto activist.
