Analysts debate whether Bitcoin is in a ‘sell in May’ bear market Crypto analysts are divided over whether markets will see a major Bitcoin sell-off in May, a pattern that has emerged in the last two bear markets during US mid-term election years.

In May 2018, Bitcoin crashed from nearly $10,000 to about $7,000 by the end of the month. It happened again in May 2022, when Bitcoin fell nearly 30% from about $40,000 to $28,500 before falling further in June to $20,000.
With 2026 also a bear market year coinciding with a US mid-term election, there are concerns it could happen again.
“The most brutal pattern in Bitcoin history. Nobody wants to hear this. But the pattern is perfect. Mid-term election years. Bitcoin dumps. Every time,” crypto analyst Merlijn Enkelaar said on Sunday.

Enkelaar said a similar move could see Bitcoin prices collapse to $33,000 despite the advancement of key legislation, the CLARITY Act, positive crypto sentiment from the Trump administration and potential trade deals between the US and China.
Joao Wedson, founder and CEO of Alphractal, also said Sunday that there would be a higher probability of a new capitulation phase if Bitcoin remains under $78,000, with bears “showing signs of strength.”
Bitcoin was trading at about $76,900 at the time of writing, down 5.6% over the past seven days

Yet another crypto bridge falls victim to an $11 million hack

Blockchain security remains a perennial challenge, and crypto bridges, which enable seamless transfers between blockchains, are frequent targets for malicious actors.

On Monday, the Verus-Ethereum bridge, a cross-chain bridge that lets users move value between the Verus network and Ethereum, including $ETH and ERC-20 assets, was hacked, with the attacker making off with 103.6 tBTC, Threshold Network’s tokenized bitcoin, 1,625 ether ($ETH) and 147,000 USD Coin (USDC).

The exploiter later swapped the assets for 5,402.4 $ETH, worth over $11 million, and now holds the same in the address, 0x65Cb8b128Bf6e690761044CCECA422bb239C25F9, according to PeckShield.

The latest exploit is yet another example of how malicious actors continue to target infrastructure that connects chains or handles cross-chain messaging, rather than smart contracts themselves.

According to crypto exchange Phemex, the two largest losses, involving Drift and Kelp DAO, both stemmed from infrastructure that connects chains or manages cross-protocol messaging, while four of the smaller exploits also targeted bridge-related components.

The Kelp DAO attack in April targeted bridge infrastructure connecting multiple blockchains, specifically via LayerZero’s cross-chain messaging system. It resulted in losses of $293 million and caused collateral damage across the DeFi ecosystem.

“That is no coincidence, and it matches the historical pattern in which bridge exploits consistently produce the largest individual losses in any given year,” the crypto exchange said.

Senate crypto bill at risk beyond midterms if not passed by August: NYDIG

The US Senate’s crypto market structure bill could take until August to pass and risks not advancing at all if lawmakers cannot pass it before the midterms, said Greg Cipolaro, head of research at financial services firm NYDIG.

Patrick Witt, a senior White House crypto adviser, said earlier this month that he was targeting July 4 for the Senate’s crypto bill to pass, saying there was enough time for a Senate markup, floor vote and House vote.

“This may represent an aspirational benchmark rather than a fixed legislative deadline,” Cipolaro said in a note on Friday. “The realistic window, however, is June through early August.”

The crypto market structure bill would outline how US watchdogs would regulate crypto and is seen as one of the most important pieces of crypto legislation this year. However, it has been marred by delays as lawmakers and lobbyists have sought to add or amend provisions around stablecoins and government officials’ use of crypto, among other issues.

The bill passed a long-delayed markup in the Senate Banking Committee on Thursday, which voted largely along party lines to advance it to the Senate floor, where it will need 60 votes to avoid prolonged debate and pass.

Republicans hold a 53-seat Senate majority and will need at least seven Democrats on board to pass the bill quickly, but some Democrats are concerned that the bill does not go far enough in preventing crime and sanctions evasion.

Cipolaro said Congress has a recess from late July to early September and will then return to a period ahead of the midterm elections in November, when Senate leadership “is unlikely to schedule a contested 60-vote floor fight.”

The platform allegedly collected approximately $340 million from investors around the world. New participants’ funds were diverted to pay earlier users, the textbook structure of both Ponzi and pyramid schemes.

Forsage gained particular traction in emerging markets, where multi-level marketing communities served as a natural distribution network.

The defendants and the Kevin Spacey connection

Oblamska is not the only person charged. Her co-defendants include Vladimir Okhotnikov, described as the alleged mastermind behind Forsage, along with Mikhail Sergeev and Sergey Maslakov. All face wire fraud conspiracy charges.

Okhotnikov reportedly resurfaced last year in a film featuring disgraced actor Kevin Spacey.

Regulatory backdrop and what it means for investors

Forsage first drew regulatory attention well before these criminal charges materialized. The criminal prosecution represents an escalation from civil enforcement to the kind of case that can result in prison time.

The case also highlights the limits of decentralization as a legal shield. Forsage’s operators marketed the platform as decentralized and trustless, implying that smart contracts alone made the operation legitimate. Courts

That structure increasingly suggested institutions preferred yield-generating and lower-risk assets while gradually integrating blockchain settlement infrastructure. However, concentration around Treasury products still highlighted cautious institutional expansion rather than aggressive diversification across broader tokenized markets.

Institutional demand accelerates tokenization adoption

As tokenized real-world assets [RWAs] continued expanding across blockchain networks, institutional demand also shifted steadily toward programmable financial infrastructure and settlement efficiency.

Earlier growth from nearly $21 billion had already reflected accelerating enterprise adoption across broader capital market systems.

That momentum strengthened further once on-chain RWAs climbed toward roughly $33.71 billion during mid-May 2026.
In fact, Ondo Finance [ONDO] expanded its tokenized market capitalization by more than $2 billion within a single month, pushing total growth above 236% across eight months.

Tokenized U.S. Treasuries also approached nearly $13 billion as BlackRock’s BUIDL and Franklin Templeton’s BENJI expanded adoption across institutional settlement rails.
