The recent rally has largely been driven by structural strength in the Spot market. The chart below shows increased Spot buying activity, which has continued to provide support for $JUP’s upward move.

Bitcoin’s market cycle appears to be evolving, with lower volatility and more controlled price action replacing the extreme swings of previous years. Instead of sharp crashes and explosive rallies, the market now seems focused on longer accumulation phases and steadier growth.

Cycles Show Signs Of Structural Evolution
Bitcoin is entering a new era defined by volatility suppression. Crypto analyst Killa highlights that the days of wild, parabolic expansions and euphoric blow-off tops appear to be fading, replaced by more muted and controlled price action. As the asset matures, the explosive growth seen in previous cycles is giving way to a more institutionalized pace of expansion.
This shift in upside momentum inevitably changes the nature of market corrections. Future bottoms are likely to be less violent, moving away from deep capitulation wicks and sudden crashes. Instead, more structured and predictable drawdowns are expected, reflecting a market that is becoming less prone to chaotic deleveraging.
The MVRV pricing bands highlight this transition. Unlike previous cycles that aggressively pierced the highest overheated zones, this cycle has stayed well within the upper boundaries. Even during peak bullish phases, the market hasn’t fully stretched into those historical extremes, suggesting a significant change in how value is being realized.

Ultimately, Bitcoin may no longer need to hit the purple/green zones of extreme overvaluation to complete a cycle. By simply nearing these bands rather than overshooting them, the market is demonstrating a newfound equilibrium. This suggests a Great Moderation where both the peaks and troughs of the cycle are becoming permanently compressed.

On the technical side, Bitcoin dominance (BTC.D) has logged four straight days of downside pressure after its early May breakout to 61.2%. At the same time, the Altcoin Season Index has jumped by more than 10 points in less than 24 hours, reinforcing a classic BTC-to-altcoin rotation setup.

Historically, however, altcoin rallies rarely sustain momentum unless Ethereum [ETH], the largest altcoin, starts gaining strength against Bitcoin [BTC], allowing deeper capital to flow across the broader altcoin market.

As the chart below shows, the ETH/BTC ratio has rebounded around 0.7% after four consecutive weeks of decline. This could be an early sign that rotation might be expanding beyond Bitcoin

In short, several signals may be lining up for the market to start speculating on an altcoin rally.

That said, momentum remains the key variable. During the previous February-April cycle, the ETH/BTC ratio jumped by nearly 15%, pushing the Altcoin Season Index up more than 40% before topping near 55. This aligned with the BTC.D running into resistance around the 60%-level, creating a similar rotation narrative.

And yet, despite the improving structure, the setup never evolved into a full-blown altcoin cycle. The Altcoin Season Index failed to break above the 75-threshold typically required to confirm broad, market-wide altcoin expansion.

This raises the key question – Is the market simply entering another short-lived rotation phase, or is this setup fundamentally different?

At Consensus 2026 in Miami, Ripple SVP Jack McDonald delivered one of the clearest explanations yet of how $XRP and $RLUSD work together. His message was unmistakable: $RLUSD isn’t replacing $XRP, it relies on $XRP to function on the $XRP Ledger.

Explaining how $RLUSD functions on the $XRP Ledger, McDonald emphasized that $XRP remains essential to the network’s infrastructure. As the ledger’s native gas token, $XRP powers every $RLUSD transaction processed on XRPL behind the scenes.

While reinforcing $XRP’s central role in facilitating activity across the network, he said:

“Everything that we’re doing on the $XRP Ledger with $RLUSD requires us to use $XRP.”

McDonald described $XRP as the “grease in the wheel” powering $RLUSD activity on the $XRP Ledger, highlighting its critical role in enabling fast and efficient transaction flow across the network. His remarks push back against speculation that $RLUSD could diminish $XRP’s importance.

Instead, Ripple appears to be strengthening a dual-asset ecosystem where $RLUSD delivers price stability while $XRP continues to power liquidity, transaction fees, and core network functionality.
