Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey said international regulators will have to "wrestle" with the US over global rules for stablecoins, which are largely denominated in and backed by US dollars.

"If we want stablecoins to be part of the architecture of payments globally [...] they're only going to work if we have international standards," Bailey said at a conference on Friday, according to Reuters.

"Frankly, that, I think, is going to be a coming wrestle with the [US] administration," he added.

US President Donald Trump has the goal of attracting the crypto industry to the US and has promoted the use of stablecoins through the GENIUS Act, which gave a regulatory framework to stablecoin issuers.

Uniswap climbs as TVL hits $3.59B – Can UNI hold above $3.90?
Uniswap [UNI] extended its bullish momentum after posting double-digit gains and climbing above $3.92 at press time.

The rally occurs as on-chain activity across the protocol continues to strengthen, with key liquidity and derivatives metrics aligning to support further upside potential for the asset. However, compact liquidity clusters below current price levels still leave UNI exposed to downside volatility if sentiment weakens.
Uniswap’s total value locked (TVL) has continued to trend higher, reaching $3.59 billion as of writing, its highest level since the 2nd of February.

TVL measures the total value of assets deposited within a DeFi protocol. Rising TVL often signals improving market confidence because it reflects stronger capital inflows and growing user participation.

The latest rise in TVL suggests that liquidity is steadily returning to the protocol as broader market sentiment improves.

Protocol earnings have also strengthened significantly. Since the 1st of April, Uniswap has generated approximately $4.23 million in quarterly earnings, marking its second-highest quarterly performance on record.

That figure already accounts for 65.78% of the protocol’s Q1 2026 earnings of $6.43 million, despite more than fifty days remaining in the quarter. If on-chain usage and trading activity continue to rise, Uniswap could be on track to record its strongest quarterly earnings performance yet in Q2.

This news came as the broader market experienced a modest pullback overnight, with the total crypto market cap dropping 0.2% to $2.77 trillion, following a few weeks of bullish price action.
Polymarket, the decentralized prediction market platform, shows odds of a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire by the end of 2026 sitting above 99%, a jump of 49 percentage points in recent weeks. Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly stated he believes the war is “coming to an end,” and those comments landed directly in crypto market analysis feeds as a risk-on catalyst.

Think of prediction markets like a crowdsourced bet – thousands of participants putting real money behind an outcome, not just clicking a poll. When those odds move from 50% to 99%, markets treat it as near-confirmation. Bitcoin, as the most liquid risk asset in crypto, typically moves with that kind of macro sentiment shift.

The Math Behind the $22,000 Target Is Specific – and Demanding

Lee’s ratio math is straightforward. The ETH/BTC long-term average sits near 0.048. The 2021 cycle peak hit 0.087.

Applied to a $250,000 Bitcoin price Lee’s stated fair value, those ratios produce ETH targets of roughly $12,000 and $21,750, respectively.

The $22,000 figure is essentially the bull case of the bull case: peak ratio, peak BTC assumption, both arriving at the same time.
The AI-blockchain demand component is where Lee diverges from a pure ratio trade. His argument: AI agents operating autonomously in the global economy will need a payment layer that functions 24/7 without correspondent banking dependencies.

Ethereum’s uninterrupted uptime record and decentralized validator set make it the default candidate. Lee also cited stablecoin transaction volumes surpassing Visa’s annual throughput, a claim that holds up. Ethereum-based stablecoin volumes (USDC, USDT, DAI combined) ran approximately $220 trillion annualized in 2025, against Visa’s $12.2 trillion.

That data point is not speculative.

On supply, Lee’s position at BitMine adds direct context. The firm holds more than 4% of all circulating Ethereum and generates over $300 million annually from staking rewards, which places Lee’s bullish thesis in direct financial proximity to his institution’s balance sheet.

That conflict of interest is worth naming. It does not make the thesis wrong. It does mean the assumptions deserve scrutiny.
