Recent derivatives activity also aligned with the absence of long liquidations, reinforcing stronger bullish conviction throughout the rally. 

However, elevated leverage exposure would also increase volatility risks because aggressive positioning often amplifies directional swings during rapid market movements.

Solana just got a lot faster. Anza, the core development organization behind Solana, has completed the first successful Alpenswitch on the Alpenglow community cluster. The result: transaction finalization times dropped from approximately 12.8 seconds to around 100-150 milliseconds.Finality is the point at which a transaction is considered irreversible. Until a transaction is finalized, there’s a theoretical window where it could be reversed or reorganized. Solana’s previous consensus mechanism, Tower BFT, paired with its block propagation system called Turbine, delivered finality in about 12.8 seconds. Alpenglow replaces both of those systems entirely.

Tower BFT gets swapped for a new consensus component called Votor. Turbine gets replaced by Rotor. Together, they form the backbone of the Alpenglow protocol.

Votor can finalize blocks in a single round if 80% of stake is participating and voting correctly. If participation dips to 60% of stake, it still gets the job done in two rounds. The system is designed to tolerate up to 20% malicious actors and an additional 20% of validators being offline simultaneously.

The Alpenglow protocol was designed by a research team from ETH Zurich, a group that had previously gained recognition for publishing critiques of Solana’s existing consensus mechanisms. Anza’s head of research confirmed the milestone, noting that the successful Alpenswitch on the community cluster validates the transition from theoretical design to working implementation.

The Alpenglow community cluster serves as a testing ground before any changes reach Solana’s mainnet, allowing developers and validators to observe the new consensus mechanism under realistic conditions without risking the stability of the production network.

The CFTC’s latest Commitments of Traders report, covering the week ended May 5th, paints a picture of traditional finance positioning that crypto investors should pay attention to, even if digital assets didn’t make the guest list. Equity fund managers grew more bullish on the S&P 500, speculators dialed back their bets against Treasuries, and currency markets looked like a coin flip.
What the positioning data actually shows
The COT report is the CFTC’s weekly snapshot of how different categories of traders, managed money, commercial hedgers, and speculators, are positioned across futures and options markets.
This week’s data revealed equity fund managers increasing their net long positions in S&P 500 futures. On the fixed income side, speculators reduced their short positions in Treasury futures. Currency futures positioning was mixed, with no clear directional consensus emerging across major pairs.

Bitcoin is holding above a key support level as traders track whether $BTC can continue its recovery toward the $84,000 to $85,000 CME gap. The latest charts show $78,180 as the main level to defend, while the weekly FVG remains the next major resistance area.

Bitcoin Bulls Hold Key $78,180 Level as $BTC Trend Stays Positive
Bitcoin remained in a bullish continuation setup on the four hour chart, according to a TradingView chart shared by Man of Bitcoin on X.

The chart shows $BTC holding above the key $78,180 level after its recent pullback from the local high area. This level now acts as the main short term line between continuation and a deeper correctionAs long as Bitcoin stays above $78,180, the bullish wave structure remains favored. The chart also marks a possible upside path toward the $87,000 area if buyers regain momentum and push $BTC higher.

However, a break below $78,180 would weaken the current setup. In that case, the chart points to an alternative wave two structure, with key support marked near $74,917.

The Fibonacci area between $77,861 and $76,555 also sits below the current range. That zone could become important if $BTC loses the first support level but avoids a deeper move.

For now, Bitcoin remains above the main invalidation level. The next move depends on whether buyers can defend $78,180 and turn the latest pullback into another continuation move

Perpetual market activity drives bullish sentiment



A significant portion of the current bullish momentum has also been driven by increased activity in Jupiter’s perpetual Futures market.

CoinGlass data shows that Open Interest (OI) climbed by more than 22% in the past day, reaching approximately $67.26 million.


The latest increase pushed OI to its highest level since February 2026, signaling renewed speculative participation in the market.

At the same time, the positive OI-Weighted Funding Rate confirms that long traders continue to dominate positioning in the perpetual market, with the metric holding near 0.0140%.

While the broader setup remains supportive of further upside, derivatives volume data continues to reflect some caution.

The Taker Buy/Sell Ratio still leans toward sellers, indicating that sell-side trading volume remains elevated despite rising bullish positioning.

This divergence suggests that although traders continue opening long positions, selling activity has not fully weakened, leaving room for short-term volatility to persist.
