Data from blockchain analytics platform Glassnode shows new addresses on the XRP network collapsed from 18,000 per day in December 2024 to just 2,700 today, marking an 85% decline in network growth.

The speculative rally that pushed XRP sharply higher in late 2024 has now faded at the network level. 

So what does this mean for XRP’s next move?

XRP New Addresses Collapse 85%

According to the data, new addresses created on the XRP network have dropped from nearly 18,000 per day in December 2024 to just over 2,700 today, representing an almost 85% decline.

The chart shows that XRP network activity peaked near the end of 2024 as new wallet creation surged alongside price momentum. However, the trend reversed sharply in recent months, with new address creation steadily declining throughout 2025 and into 2026.

New addresses often reflect fresh user participation entering a blockchain ecosystem. The sharp drop suggests that retail activity and speculative interest have significantly slowed compared to the peak-rally period.

Strategy’s Michael Saylor hinted at something few expected to hear from him — that his company might actually sell some of its Bitcoin. Not out of desperation, but as a calculated signal to the market.

A Message, Not A Meltdown
Speaking during the company’s first-quarter earnings call on Tuesday, Saylor said Strategy could sell a portion of its holdings to fund a dividend — mainly to prove a point.

“We’ll probably sell some Bitcoin to fund a dividend, just to inoculate the market, just to send the message that we did it,” he said.
The idea, as Saylor put it, is to show investors that the company is stable, Bitcoin is fine, and the world hasn’t fallen apart.

It marks a sharp turn from the stance he held as recently as February, when he told CNBC that Strategy would “buy Bitcoin every quarter forever.”


At the time, he also said the company could weather a price drop to as low as $8,000 without being forced to sell any of its holdings to cover debt.

Strategy now holds 818,334 Bitcoin, valued at roughly $66.7 billion. That’s a lot riding on a single asset.

Big Loss, Bigger Context
The earnings call came after Strategy posted a $12.5 billion net loss for the first quarter. Most of that loss was tied to unrealized declines in the value of its Bitcoin holdings, which dropped 23.5% during the quarter.

The market reacted swiftly — shares of MSTR fell 4.33% in after-hours trading, closing at $178.80.

Still, Saylor remains focused on the long game. Strategy has been funding its Bitcoin purchases through dividend-paying preferred stock offerings, including one called Stretch, ticker STRC.

Reports indicate that Stretch carries an 11% monthly dividend and has helped finance much of the 145,834 Bitcoin the company acquired this year alone.

Coinbase Global Inc. (Nasdaq: COIN) reported on May 7 that its first-quarter performance reflected stronger participation across spot trading, derivatives, stablecoins, and on-chain products. The crypto firm posted $202 billion in quarterly trading volume, $294 billion in assets held on platform, and a workforce of more than 4,900 employees.

Retail and institutional participation accelerated during the quarter. “Coinbase crypto trading volume market share increased to 8.6%, a new all-time high driven by product innovation and derivatives growth,” the crypto firm noted, adding that derivatives have become a larger part of its trading business, with trailing-12-month volume up 169% from the prior year. Coinbase shares slide on $400M Q1 loss, revenue miss

Coinbase shares slid Thursday after the US crypto exchange reported a steep first-quarter loss while revenue missed Wall Street expectations.

Coinbase reported a net loss of $394.1 million in Q1, its second consecutive quarterly loss after reporting a $667 million loss in Q4 2025. It swung from a $65.6 million profit a year earlier.

“Macro conditions were genuinely tough,” Coinbase chief financial officer Alesia Haas told investors on an earnings call. “Total crypto market cap and total crypto trading volume were both down more than 20% quarter-over-quarter.”

Coinbase’s earnings come as other crypto companies have also struggled to turn a profit in the first months of 2026 as a crypto market slump pushed some traders to other investments.

Meanwhile, Coinbase’s Q1 revenue was $1.41 billion, missing analyst estimates of $1.5 billion. Transaction revenue slumped 40%, while subscription and services revenue — representing its business outside trading — fell 13.5% from a year earlier.

Its earnings per share were a $1.49 loss, compared to analysts' expectations of 36 cents per share, which saw Coinbase dropping by 4.7% after hours on Thursday to under $184.

Coinbase’s stock has fallen more than 14.5% this year, prompting the exchange to pursue new business lines such as prediction markets and cost-cutting measures, including laying off 14% of its workforce, or about 700 employees, on Monday.

Despite the company’s earnings, CEO Brian Armstrong struck an optimistic tone on the earnings call, telling investors that “the world economy is moving on-chain, and Coinbase was built to capitalize on this transition.”
