Bitcoin climbed above $72,000 on Thursday after reports emerged that ceasefire negotiations were moving forward amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. The announcement came during what had been a cautious session for both crypto and equity markets.

Bitcoin (BTC) rose roughly 3% within minutes of the news and was last trading at $72,300, up 2% over the prior 24 hours. The Nasdaq recovered from modest early losses and moved 0.65% higher. WTI crude oil pulled back to $98.60 per barrel after touching nearly $103 earlier in the session.
The reversal followed reports that officials involved in the conflict had been urged to reduce military activity, as ongoing hostilities were threatening a ceasefire that had been announced earlier in the week. The signal that negotiations would begin as soon as possible was enough for markets to read the situation as a short-term easing of global conflict risk.

Other major digital assets did not move as sharply. Ethereum (ETH), Solana, and XRP each gained less than 1% over the same 24-hour window. Bitcoin was the clear outperformer among large-cap crypto assets on the day.
Bitcoin has also been pulling away from software stocks over the past month. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software ETF fell 4% on Thursday and is approaching a support level near $76 that it has tested and held from several times before. Over the past 30 days, Bitcoin is up 9% while the same ETF is down 12%.

Arthur Hayes, one of the most followed strategists in the cryptocurrency markets, shared his current predictions about Bitcoin and the global economy in a program he participated in.

Hayes argued that geopolitical crises such as the Iran-Israel tension have a limited impact on markets, and that the real disruptive effect will come from the changes artificial intelligence is creating in the labor market.

Hayes stated that the tension with Iran has one critical point for investors: whether oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz will continue. Saying that the market is only focused on commodity flow, Hayes added, “If oil is flowing, the markets unfortunately don’t care about the rest of the human tragedy.”

According to Hayes, the fact that oil shipments continued despite prices remaining at $110-120 levels triggered a relief rally in the markets.

The most striking point of the interview was Hayes’s description of artificial intelligence as the “biggest risk” for Bitcoin. Hayes stated that companies are able to do more work with fewer staff thanks to AI agents, adding that engineers, accountants, and lawyers are beginning to be laid off.

Hayes pointed out that this high-salaried group being laid off (such as engineers earning $250,000 a year) has mortgage, car loan, and credit card debts, adding that this will create significant deflationary pressure on the banking system.

The renowned investor, who described Bitcoin as the world’s “liquidity smoke detector,” stated that central banks are not printing enough money to offset the deflationary effect created by artificial intelligence, which is why Bitcoin is struggling to permanently surpass the $100,000 level.

CoreWeave, a public Bitcoin miner that ditched Bitcoin for an AI venture, is winning big. According to Blocksbridge Consulting, CoreWeave’s successful $8.5 billion GPU-backed loan has confirmed the AI boom or ‘ComputeFi’  and, by extension, the death of ‘MinerFi.’ 

The research examined the 2021 Bitcoin mining boom, which collapsed hard as BTC’s price fell while hashrate (computation power and number of miners) surged.

At the end of the 2021 cycle, the resale value of old ASICs (rigs used to mine BTC) fell and the BTC price crash exacerbated the situation. 

In contrast, the newer mining hardware, which includes Nvidia’s GPU (general processing units) could easily be repurposed for other things. Especially as AI’s demands for data processing and power balloon. 

As a result, most miners with the latest hardware during the current cycle have either partially or wholly pivoted to AI with ease.

Others like MARA have been forced to liquidate their BTC holdings to fund these pivots. However, players such as CoreWeave have opted for GPU-backed loans, which use the computing racks as collateral. 

In fact, CoreWeave’s $8.5 billion is unprecedented because it is the largest loan facility ever to be made using the computing racks as collateral in the sector.

At the center of the pilots is Ripple Payments, which replaces the traditional correspondent banking model used by SWIFT.

Instead of routing payments through multiple intermediaries and relying on pre-funded accounts, ODL converts fiat into $XRP. Then it sends it across the $XRP Ledger within seconds and converts it back to the destination currency.

Banks participating in the pilots confirmed that removing intermediaries and idle capital requirements led to a 60% reduction in transaction costs. Settlement times also dropped dramatically from one to five business days under SWIFT to just a few seconds using $XRP.

Expansion Across Asia Gains Traction

Ripple used the conference to expand its network with 12 new currency pairs, targeting Southeast Asia’s fast-growing remittance corridors.
