Just last Friday, the S&P 500 hit a record high, and Goldman Sachs' trading desk immediately issued a warning—this rally had pushed the market to the brink of a correction.

John Flood, Goldman Sachs' head of US trading, wrote in a weekend client report that the market was "starting to feel a bit overdone." When clients pressed him on why the market was continuing to rise, Flood's core assessment was: total leverage remained too high, while net leverage was too low—"This is the perfect storm of right-tail risks we warned about at the end of March, and it has gradually materialized over the past two weeks, with the fastest pace on Friday."

He further stated, "The market is now fully prepared for a correction next week (i.e., this week)."

Meanwhile, geopolitical tensions escalated sharply over the weekend. The Strait of Hormuz was closed again, and on Monday in Asian trading, Brent crude rose as much as 7.9% to $97.50 per barrel, WTI rose more than 7% to around $90 per barrel, S&P 500 futures fell 0.7%, and Nasdaq 100 futures fell about 0.9%—last week's gains faced immediate retracement pressure.

 The leverage structure is unbalanced, and the technical headwinds are fading.

Flood's warning stems from the current leverage structure of the US market.

According to Goldman Sachs' PB data, the overall account leverage ratio is currently 310%, at the 92nd percentile for one-year and the 98th percentile for five-year periods—meaning that market leverage has been lower than current levels for 98% of the past five years.

Meanwhile, the net leverage ratio is only 75%, at the 21st percentile for one-year periods. High total leverage and low net leverage indicate crowded overall market positions, but weak directional bets—once sentiment reverses, the pressure to deleverage will be released in a concentrated manner.

Bitcoin Spot ETFs Saw Net Inflows of $996 Million Last Week, Marking Three Consecutive Weeks of Net Inflows

According to Odaily citing data from SoSoValue, Bitcoin spot ETFs recorded net inflows of $996 million during last week's trading sessions (April 13 to April 17, Eastern Time).

The Bitcoin spot ETF with the highest net inflows last week was BlackRock's IBIT, with weekly net inflows of $906 million. IBIT's cumulative historical net inflows now stand at $64.63 billion. Following that was the Ark & 21Shares ETF ARKB, with weekly net inflows of $98.5036 million. ARKB's cumulative historical net inflows have reached $1.55 billion.

The Bitcoin spot ETF with the highest net outflows last week was Fidelity's FBTC, with weekly net outflows of $104 million. FBTC's cumulative historical net inflows currently amount to $11.01 billion.

Bitcoin (BTC) experienced a downturn after failing to sustain its upward momentum above the $78,400 mark. The cryptocurrency is currently consolidating, with a key support level to watch at $73,500.

BTC has fallen below $76,500 and is trading below its 100-hour simple moving average. A bearish trendline on the hourly chart, with resistance at $75,600, indicates potential for further declines if BTC remains below $75,500 and $76,000.

Despite the recent pullback from a high of $78,350, Bitcoin's overall structure is still considered bullish. If it can hold above the $73,500 support, it may attempt another rally. Immediate resistance lies at $74,750, followed by $75,500 and the trendline at $75,600. A decisive break above $75,500 could propel BTC towards $76,000 and potentially $77,200.

However, failure to overcome the $75,500 resistance could lead to further losses, with immediate support at $74,000 and major support at $73,500. Below this, BTC could test $72,500 and eventually the significant $70,000 level, which, if breached, could signal a more substantial downturn. Technical indicators, including the MACD and RSI, suggest a bearish bias in the short term.

The growth metrics are equally telling.
As of mid-April 2026, cumulative issuance has surpassed ¥2.1 billion, growing 2.6x in just three months. Daily turnover exceeding 100% suggests strong usage, not just idle supply. While there are around 17,000 accounts, over 137,000 wallet addresses have interacted with JPYC—pointing to rising on-chain activity.
On the ecosystem side, JPYC is already live on Ethereum, Polygon, and Avalanche, with plans to expand to newer chains like Kaia and Arc. The goal is clear: become a universal payment layer across digital ecosystems.
But the real story is in adoption.
JPYC is working with Sony Bank, integrating with wallets like Unifi, and exploring practical use cases such as tax refunds, cross-border payments, and e-commerce. It has even rolled out offline payment applications in El Salvador—bridging crypto with everyday transactions.

By Sunday afternoon, Kitco’s bid and ask page quoted the metal between $4,829 and $4,831. Goldprice.org tracked a 24-hour gain of $45.63 or about 0.95% heading into the afternoon.

Weekend trading, as is typical for over-the-counter (OTC) spot markets, carried forward Friday’s levels with minimal movement. Saturday saw no formal COMEX settlement, and gold held steady in the $4,790 to $4,831 range before ticking slightly higher into Sunday.



The three-day net gain from the April 16 close of approximately $4,790 to Sunday’s price stood at roughly $41, or 0.85%. The bulk of that move was built during Friday’s session, when intraday momentum in futures and spot ran between 1% and 1.5%.
