Bitcoin investors are suddenly confronting an uncomfortable math problem inside the $91.7 billion U.S. spot bitcoin ETF market.

"Coinbase Custody holds 84% of all US spot Bitcoin ETF assets," Marc Baumann, founder of research firm fiftyonexyz, posted on X on April 14. "That's $77 billion with a single custodian. For an industry built on decentralization, the most important product category has a single point of failure. Regulators will notice."

The warning is landing as bitcoin trades near $77,000, having clawed back from a 40% drawdown since its late-2025 peak around $126,000. It also lands three weeks after the April 2 conditional approval of a national trust charter for Coinbase by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. "OCC grants Coinbase conditional approval for a National Trust Bank Charter," Swiss law firm Goldblum & Partners posted on X on April 13, noting that "11 crypto firms now in the federal banking pipeline" and that a new rule, 12 CFR 5.20, "explicitly permits non-fiduciary crypto custody for national trust banks." That regulatory blessing, in a twist, deepens the concentration analysts are now calling out.

The figure itself has become the new rallying cry of bitcoin's structural skeptics. CryptoSlate first framed the dollar number on April 12 as "over 80% of Bitcoin ETF assets hit Coinbase custody choke point with $74B at risk." Within 48 hours, the phrasing was circulating through crypto-media accounts and analyst threads.

"Over 80% of Bitcoin ETF assets now sit inside Coinbase custody. That’s roughly $74B concentrated in one infrastructure layer," wrote crypto-media account W3BCMedia on April 13. Institutional adoption was growing, the account added, "but so is systemic custody risk."

Stellar Price Forecast: Bullish momentum builds with technical breakout, high quarterly transaction activity



Stellar ($XLM) price trades slightly down at $0.167 on Friday, after breaking above the descending trendline and rallying over 10% so far this week. The bullish sentiment builds as $XLM’s network transactions reach a quarterly high, alongside positive funding rates and bullish momentum indicators.

Surge in network activity

Chainspect, a blockchain fundamentals tracker, data shows that Stellar processed over 14.19 million transactions on Thursday, its highest level in the past quarter. These surging transactions highlight increased interest and liquidity among traders in the $XLM, supporting a bullish outlook.

On the derivative side, $XLM funding rates have also flipped positive on Monday and read at 0.011% on Friday, indicating the longs are paying the shorts. Historically, when funding rates have turned positive and surged, $XLM price has rallied sharply.

$XLM Price Forecast: Price action shows a bullish breakout in play

Stellar price is trading at $0.166 on Friday, after breaking above the descending trendline at $0.1580 the previous day. $XLM is maintaining a corrective tone below the medium- and long-term Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs) as the current price remains capped beneath the 100-day EMA at $0.180 and well under the 200-day EMA at $0.215.

The 50-day EMA at $0.164 now offers nearby dynamic support, while the Relative Strength Index (RSI) around 55 and a slightly positive Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) histogram hint that downside momentum has faded but not yet flipped the structure.

Bitcoin is approaching a critical area where chart resistance near $79,000 to $80,000 meets a major short liquidation cluster around $76,500. That setup suggests $BTC could make one more push higher to clear nearby liquidity before facing renewed downside pressure.

Bitcoin Eyes $79,000 as Trader Flags Repeat Top Pattern

Bitcoin may be moving toward another local top near $79,000 to $80,000, based on a chart shared by Ted on X. The weekly BTCUSD chart on Bitstamp shows Bitcoin trading near $75,000 after rebounding from a sharp drop earlier this year. The setup focuses on a pattern seen at the last two local tops, where price pushed above the high of the prior capitulation candle before reversing.

In the chart, the latest recovery follows a deep selloff that drove Bitcoin down toward the low $60,000 area. Since then, $BTC has climbed steadily and is now approaching the yellow marked resistance zone near $79,000. That area also lines up with the high of the most recent capitulation candle, which Ted says is the level to watch if the same pattern plays out again.

The broader point is simple. In the previous two topping formations, Bitcoin first reclaimed the capitulation candle high, then peaked shortly after. Because of that, Ted expects a similar move this time and says he plans to short $BTC in the $79,000 to $80,000 range if price reaches that zone.

Still, the chart does not confirm a top yet. Bitcoin remains below that resistance area, and the current rebound is still in progress. Therefore, the next move matters most: if $BTC pushes into that zone and stalls, it could strengthen the case for another local peak. If it breaks through cleanly, the pattern may fail.
