The spread between Japanese government bond yields and U.S. Treasury two-year yields remains relatively wide, favoring the dollar, although the gap in longer-dated 10-year yields has narrowed somewhat. • Markets are currently pricing in at least one additional interest rate hike this year from the Federal Reserve, with some investors even considering the possibility of further tightening rather than rate cuts. • Meanwhile, the Bank of Japan is also expected to continue gradually normalizing policy, with markets anticipating a potential 25 basis point rate hike at its June meeting..

Sixteen years after that first recorded transaction, the Bitcoin community marked the anniversary on May 22 with fresh evidence of how far the currency has traveled.

Bitcoin Pizza Day: A Transaction That Changed Everything
Back in May 2010, software developer Laszlo Hanyecz posted an offer online: 10,000 BTC in exchange for two Papa John’s pizzas delivered to his door.

The Bitcoin he spent was worth roughly $41 at the time. At current market prices, that same amount of Bitcoin is valued at more than $767 million — and when Bitcoin hit its all-time high of around $126,000 in October 2025, those 10,000 coins briefly crossed $1.2 billion in value.

The transaction was more than a quirky footnote. Nischal Shetty, founder of crypto exchange WazirX, said the exchange proved that a decentralized digital asset could facilitate real commerce.

Only a few hundred transactions were being processed on the Bitcoin network each day at the time, with almost no payment infrastructure or institutional involvement to speak of.

Crypto prices were slightly higher on Monday amid rising odds in prediction markets for a near-term U.S.-Iran peace deal, as Iranian negotiators arrived in Doha for talks.

Bitcoin gained 1.6% in 24 hours to $77,500, ether rose 1.4%, and the broader CoinDesk 20 (CD20) added 1.56%.

Traders on Polymarket pushed the probability of a permanent deal this month to 37%, up from roughly 14% on Friday. The odds for a deal are at 46% by early June and 72% by the end of July. The market has drawn roughly $178 million in volume.
