What is UNI?
Uniswap is a decentralized exchange protocol built on the Ethereum blockchain that offers non-custodial trading of ERC-20 tokens. Its first version (Uniswap v1) has been operating since November 2018 (launching at DevCon 4), while the second version (Uniswap v2) launched in May 2020. In Uniswap, users can swap tokens, add tokens to a pool to earn fees, or list a token without trusting any central intermediary. Since all interactions are done directly on-chain and thus cost gas fees, Uniswap has become the most significant gas contributor on the Ethereum public network and became the most widely used decentralized application as of the time of writing. Uniswap is built on a unique system called Automated Market Maker (AMM). At its core, liquidity is created by pools composed of two ERC-20 tokens. As a reward for liquidity provision, parties (Liquidity Providers, or LPs) collect swap fees that are incurred whenever individuals swap tokens. In Uniswap v2, swap fees are set at 0.30% of the notionally traded amount. Collected fees are allocated to the reserve of the pool. Once the protocol switch is turned on, UNI holders will collect 0.05% of each swap, while LPs'; reward will decrease to 0.25%. Despite not being the first AMM, Uniswap has popularized the growth of automated market maker protocols, leading to the creation of competing protocols like SushiSwap, which greatly rely on its set of audited open source contracts. UNI is an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain that offers control over the Uniswap protocol governance, the UNI token community treasury, the protocol fee switch (0.05% of the fee would be collected by UNI token holders if activated), eth ENS, Uniswap default token list (tokens.uniswap.eth), and SOCKS liquidity tokens.

Uniswap (UNI) rebounded from a four-month low of $2.8, climbing to $3.49 amid a broader market recovery. Despite strong buyer interest and significant exchange outflows, the bullish momentum slowed as sellers re-entered the market. Key indicators, including the Directional Movement Index (DMI), suggest persistent bearish pressure, with sellers maintaining control. For a sustained reversal, buyers must push UNI above the $4.2 EMA20 resistance; otherwise, a retest of $3.0 is likely. The market remains in a tense battle between buyers and sellers.
Standard Chartered Bank’s digital asset research head, Geoff Kendrick, initiated coverage on Uniswap with a highly bullish long-term price target of $100 for its UNI token by 2030—a roughly 40-fold increase from its ~$2.60 trading price at the time of the report.
The bank’s thesis hinges on the exponential growth of tokenized real-world assets (RWA), projected to surge from ~$340 billion to $4 trillion by 2028. It expects the share of these assets deployed in DeFi to rise from 3.5% to 30%, driving total DeFi TVL to around $2.7 trillion. As the leading decentralized exchange (DEX), Uniswap is positioned to capture a significant portion of this liquidity influx.
A key catalyst is Uniswap’s “fee switch,” activated in late 2024, which directs a portion of protocol fees to UNI token buybacks and burns. This transforms UNI from a pure governance token into a yield-generating, deflationary asset, narrowing its valuation gap with centralized exchanges like Coinbase. The report draws an analogy: Coinbase operates like Netflix (centralized, high-cost), while Uniswap functions like YouTube (open, user-generated, network-effect driven).
Despite its dominant market share and recent institutional adoption—such as BlackRock’s BUIDL fund and Fidelity’s stablecoin using Uniswap for liquidity—the path faces challenges. Competition from Solana-based DEXs and aggregators threatens user mindshare, while regulatory delays or setbacks in RWA adoption could slow the projected growth. Furthermore, UNI remains down over 92% from its 2021 peak, reflecting persistent market skepticism.
Ultimately, Standard Chartered’s report signals a shift in traditional finance’s perception of DeFi, valuing network effects and cash flow potential. However, realizing the $100 target depends on Uniswap successfully navigating intense competition, regulatory hurdles, and the multi-year timeline for massive tokenized asset adoption.
The Uniswap community is voting on a proposal to implement the protocol's first sustained UNI token burn mechanism, with 74% currently in support. The proposal, which involves activating protocol fees on Robinhood Chain and deploying v4, would channel fees into accounts where users can burn UNI. This aims to link UNI's supply directly to protocol usage rather than just governance incentives.
With Uniswap generating significant daily and annual protocol revenue, increased trading activity from new deployments like Robinhood Chain could create more opportunities to remove UNI from circulation. While the initial burn rate is modest relative to total supply, the mechanism establishes a long-term connection between usage and token scarcity.
The success of this strategy now hinges on user adoption. Robinhood Chain's rapid growth, surpassing $1 billion in swap volume shortly after launch, tests whether Uniswap can expand its user base. Sustained activity on such chains will determine if the burn mechanism can meaningfully strengthen UNI's value by tying it to organic protocol demand.
Altcoins showed strong growth overall last month, with the TOTAL2ES index rising nearly 32%. Last week, major altcoins like Zcash and Dash saw double-digit gains. Among the top 100 cryptocurrencies by market cap, UNI from Uniswap rose 39.1%, and ARB from Arbitrum more than doubled, up 107.4%. ARB reached its highest price since early January, while UNI traded at levels not seen since last November.
A key driver is the Robinhood Chain network, launched about two months ago, which has become the largest crypto network by fee generation. Uniswap and Arbitrum are the protocols closest to this activity. The network's cumulative DEX trading volume exceeded $40 billion, with daily revenue now over $4 million, surpassing Hyperliquid, Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Base.
Uniswap is the primary exchange on Robinhood Chain, capturing almost all trading volume. It also earns a higher fee percentage there (0.465%) compared to elsewhere (0.214%), partly due to tokenized stocks trading in its highest fee tiers. Furthermore, a recent protocol upgrade now directs a portion of these fees to buy back and burn UNI tokens, creating a deflationary mechanism tied directly to Robinhood Chain activity.
For ARB, the connection is different. Robinhood Chain is built on Arbitrum technology, and through the Arbitrum Expansion Program, 10% of the chain's net protocol profit is directed back—8% to the Arbitrum DAO treasury and 2% to a developer guild. However, this amount ($1.32 million by early September) is negligible compared to Uniswap's fee generation on the same platform.
The situation highlights a new concentration risk for Uniswap. While previously distributed across many blockchains, a significant portion of its fee revenue now depends on a single network controlled by Robinhood, a public broker accountable to the SEC and its shareholders. Any change in Robinhood's routing, fee structure, or regulatory issues could impact the token burn rate supporting UNI's price.
For now, the growth narrative is clear: record transaction volume on Robinhood Chain is driving increased token burns and corresponding price revisions for both UNI and ARB.
Uniswap (UNI) continues its September rally, trading near $10.45 with a 17.49% gain in 24 hours and a 64.05% rise over the past week. The token is testing a key resistance zone between $10.93 and $10.96, having broken above the 0.786 Fibonacci level at $9.29, which now serves as primary support. Key EMAs align bullishly, with the 20-day at $7.63.
Market dynamics show strengthening bullish signals. Open interest for UNI derivatives has surged to a yearly high of approximately $971.14 million, indicating increased leveraged participation. Spot markets recorded a net inflow of $900,100 as of September 23, pointing to renewed buying demand.
A significant institutional catalyst is the CME Group's planned launch of Uniswap futures on October 19, pending regulatory review, which could broaden institutional access.
The technical outlook hinges on the $10.96 resistance. A decisive break above could target $11.50 and $12.00. Failure may lead to a pullback toward $9.29, with deeper support at $7.98 and the 20-day EMA ($7.63). While rising open interest and spot inflows support the bullish structure, increased leverage also raises the potential for heightened volatility.
