The founder of ElizaOS, Shaw Walters, has announced the termination of the Eliza token project and the commencement of a wind-down process for its managing foundation. Walters stated he does not own any tokens and will not support any future Eliza token-related projects. He declared "The token is dead, fully," indicating no plans to continue under the current structure, though he intends to reboot the ElizaOS technology independently. He confirmed that the core technology will continue, but new Eliza tokens will not be issued in the new framework. Criticizing crypto community culture, Walters noted there is no foundation, new token issuance, or buyback program to support token holders, advising them to sell or otherwise dispose of their assets as the project treasury is depleted. He mentioned a lawsuit and a settlement where remaining treasury assets were transferred to a token holder group, leaving the foundation unable to operate or provide financial support. Walters expressed continued belief in the core technology but stated the token model resulted in wasted time, legal pressure, and fraudulent attempts, suggesting a future software/IP-focused relaunch without a token.

The ElizaOS token plummeted 19% to a record low of $0.000284 after its founder, Shaw Walters, declared the token "dead" and announced the winding down of the Eliza Foundation. Walters stated he no longer owns or supports the token, attributing the project's end to a costly lawsuit settlement that drained its treasury, leaving no funds for buybacks or future support. He emphasized that development of the open-source Eliza software will continue, but he will never allow another token to be associated with it. This marks a stark fall for the token, which once reached a $2.5 billion market cap in January 2025 under its previous name, AI16Z.
