What is Nervos (CKB)

1. Project Introduction
Nervos Network is a Layer 1 public blockchain ecosystem based on PoW and supporting smart contract development. It includes multiple Layer 2 scalability solutions designed for high-volume use cases. Nervos enhances Bitcoin’s scalability by extending the UTXO model in a more native manner. It improves upon the RGB protocol to provide Bitcoin with Turing-complete contract capabilities without cross-chain bridges.
Its Layer 1 chain—Common Knowledge Base (CKB)—launched in November 2019. In February 2024, CELL Studio (led by co-founder Cipher Wang) introduced the RGB++ protocol, a Bitcoin Layer 1 asset issuance protocol inspired by RGB, using CKB for data availability and execution. RGB++ aims to improve usability in the Bitcoin ecosystem by supporting complex assets and applications. Nervos targets leadership in the Bitcoin L2 space by simplifying UX and developer onboarding.
