Abstract

The UK government has unveiled a roadmap for tokenized finance, projecting an annual economic output of $44.15 billion from the sector by 2035. A key initiative is the planned issuance of a government bond in Q1 2027. A task force of approximately 54 major firms, including BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Coinbase, and Ripple, has been established to develop live use cases. However, some institutions like Barclays and PwC offer a more cautious projection of around $29.45 billion for the same period. In related developments, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky hinted at the potential for tokenizing real-world assets, acknowledging the transformative potential for liquid ownership, faster settlements, and 24/7 global markets. However, he expressed skepticism, emphasizing that widespread trust, not just advanced technology, will determine the success of any tokenization model. The broader tokenization sector is experiencing significant growth. Data from Token Terminal shows the total tokenized asset market cap has reached a new peak of approximately $340 billion, led by stablecoins. The involvement of major governments, financial institutions, and global companies is making ambitious market projections appear increasingly feasible.

The tokenization sector is gaining pace, with the UK government being the latest to announce its entry.

The UK has released a tokenized finance roadmap with the first government bond issuance set for the first quarter (Q1) of 2027. They projected $44.15 billion in annual economic output by 2035.

In line with this roadmap, about 54 firms, including BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Coinbase, Ripple, and Circle, have joined the UK government’s tokenization task force to develop live use cases.

However, Barclays and PwC were cautious, projecting about $29.45 billion for the same period. This is assuming the UK becomes the leading hub as the U.S. and the rest of Europe adopt in parallel.

Airbnb CEO hints at tokenization but remains skeptical

Notably, global companies like Airbnb appear to be embracing the same. This development is after CEO Vlad Tenev confirmed Robinhood’s long-term focus for its chain was tokenizing real-world assets (RWAs).

The CEO of Airbnb hinted at tokenizing the business but was skeptical in his words. Brian Chesky said,

I’ve been quietly keeping an eye on real-world asset tokenization for a while now. Most of it is noise. But underneath the noise, something real is happening.

He stressed that the tokens and the chains were not the interesting part but the ownership bit. Chesky also pointed out the speeds in settlement, 24/7 markets, and access with no boundaries. Brian added,

The internet made information liquid. This makes ownership liquid. This is just the beginning.

However, he remained skeptical of the technology, citing trust issues. He argued that the winning token won’t be the most advanced but the one trusted by the majority.

That said, how will all these affect the tokenization sector?

What does it mean for the tokenization sector?

As per Token Terminal, the total tokenized asset market cap had reached a new peak of about $340 billion. Stablecoins led with $295.9 billion, followed by tokenized funds at $34.6 billion.

The number of holders of tokenized assets was also rising, at 283.1 million at press time across 47 blockchains. The total number of assets was 5,143 from 319 issuers.

Securitize was leading this race among issuers with a total RWA value surpassing $5 billion, the first tokenization platform to reach this milestone.

Altogether, the involvement of the UK government alongside major banking institutions, crypto firms like Robinhood and Coinbase, and businesses like Airbnb makes the projections more feasible.

Final Summary

  • The UK government released a tokenized finance roadmap with about 54 firms joining the task force to actualize it.
  • Airbnb CEO hints at tokenizing but remains skeptical even as the total tokenized market cap continues to grow.

Robinhood Chain Launchpad Chaos: NOXA Shuts Down, Uniswap CCA Steps In?

Robinhood Chain, a blockchain focused on tokenized stocks, has seen unexpected early success driven by meme coin speculation. Two weeks after launch, its weekly DEX volume surpassed $3.1 billion, briefly exceeding Solana in daily meme trading. This frenzy centered on launchpads, tools allowing easy meme token creation. The leading platform, NOXA, generated massive fees ($7.66M in a week) and launched the chain's top meme, CASHCAT. However, on July 11, NOXA abruptly suspended new token launches, citing spam, copycat tokens, and infrastructure strain. It pivoted to a history-only interface, redistributing fees to creators. This move sparked "soft rug pull" fears and caused its launched tokens to drop sharply. NOXA's exit left a leadership vacuum among Robinhood's launchpads. Meanwhile, Uniswap officially launched its Continuous Clearing Auctions (CCA) mechanism on the chain. CCA uses a gradual, block-by-block auction to set a fair initial price and automatically creates a locked liquidity pool. Early CCA-launched memes like UNICORN and TRASH have seen high volatility. The situation highlights the trade-offs: CCA reduces front-running risk but may be less suited for fast-paced meme trading, while instant-launch platforms carry higher sniper risk. For Robinhood Chain, the meme-driven activity has successfully bootstrapped initial usage, testing its "meme-first, RWA-later" strategy as it aims to eventually host tokenized real-world assets.

Understanding Circle Founder's "Agentic Economy" Treatise: Deciphering How the Economic Landscape Will Be Reshaped in the Next Decade

This text summarizes the key points from Jeremy Allaire's treatise "The Agentic Economy." It argues that the convergence of AI agents (driving the cost of thought and work toward zero) and blockchain-based onchain economies (driving transaction costs toward zero) are not separate trends but two facets of a single, emerging economic system. The core premise is that AI agents will decompose traditional corporate functions into automatable skills, managed by an "orchestration layer." This demands a new economic infrastructure built on fully-backed, programmatic stablecoins for fast, final settlement and machine-speed payments. Trust is enabled through an "accountability chain" linking agents to verified real-world identities on public blockchains. The treatise explores how this native global system reshapes credit (through machine underwriting and agent working capital), software pricing (shifting from subscriptions to consumption/pay-per-work), and corporate structure (leading to hybrid "onchain companies"). It frankly addresses significant risks: a potential decline in labor's share of income and dangerous concentration of power at control points like identity layers and dominant currency issuers. The concluding "Civic Vision" argues the solution is not to defend old jobs but to deliberately design for broad ownership of productive capital (agents, models, infrastructure) to distribute prosperity. It acknowledges that achieving this equitable outcome is a political and design challenge, not a technological inevitability.

Why is Step Fun So Perfect?

The article analyzes StepFun's recent, meticulously orchestrated product launch on July 13th, framing it as a strategic maneuver rather than a conventional unveiling. Facing intense pressure in China's AI landscape, the startup preemptively announced its AI terminal brand STEPX, Step AOS operating system, Amoo personal agent, and the "world's first" Agent Phone, STEPX Neo—just days before a major competitor's launch at WAIC. The author argues this "perfect" presentation, addressing prior industry critiques around agent security, permissions, and ecosystem partnerships upfront, serves as a "perfect defense" aimed at regulators, investors, and the market. Its core purpose is to seize the narrative and define standards for the emerging "Agent Phone" category before giants like ByteDance (with its Doubao phone), Apple, or Huawei solidify control. Behind this move lies StepFun's precarious position. Despite a high valuation and revenue from supplying AI models to phone makers, its business is seen as vulnerable—akin to a "MediaTek of AI," with little pricing power as capabilities commoditize. CEO Yin Qi, drawing from his experience at Megvii, is betting that transitioning from a pure AI model supplier to an integrated "terminal platform" with its own hardware, OS, and ecosystem is essential for survival and sustaining its valuation narrative ahead of a potential IPO. The article concludes that StepFun's launch is a symptom of a broader trend: AI startups are forced to "release the future" and sell ambitious platform visions, often with products still in development, because "today" (current metrics, API revenue) has diminishing value in a market racing toward oligopoly. The very perfection of the presentation underscores the urgency of their fight for a seat at the table.
