Glassnode: Standing Out from the Crowd, Privacy Coins Become the Biggest Winner in the Annual Crypto Market
According to a Glassnode report, while Bitcoin remains 36% below its October 2025 all-time high and the median top 200 crypto asset is down 58%, the privacy coin sector has emerged as the year's standout winner. This sector has collectively surged 213%, reaching a new all-time high with a total market cap of approximately $33.6 billion. In contrast, all other major sectors, including DeFi and gaming, remain below their previous peaks.
The rally is not driven by a single asset. Although ZEC (Zcash), up 2496%, now constitutes 62% of the sector's market cap, other established privacy coins like XMR (Monero), DASH, and ZEN have also significantly outperformed Bitcoin over the past 90 days. Excluding ZEC, the privacy coin basket is still up 85% for the year.
Market data reveals a sharp divergence. Over the past 30 days, 91.5% of the top 200 assets saw gains, marking the broadest rally in this metric. However, on an annual basis, only 25 assets are in positive territory, with the median asset down 55%. Within the top 25 assets, only four trade above their October 2025 highs, two of which are privacy coins (ZEC and XMR).
In summary, despite a recent broad market rebound, annualized gains are heavily concentrated in the privacy coin sector, making it the clear outperformer in the current crypto cycle.
