Startale Bond Integrates Yen-Denominated Stablecoin into Corporate Finance

Startale Japan Co. Ltd. has launched a yen-denominated bond exclusively for private and corporate investors in Japan. Interest and principal repayments for this bond will be distributed using JPYSC, a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the Japanese yen, instead of traditional payment systems. Classified as a Type 3 electronic payment instrument under Japan's Payment Services Act, JPYSC is issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank, with SBI VC Trade handling issuance and placement. The move is positioned as a pilot to test stablecoins in traditional financial products. Bank Retreat and Bond Discounts: Money for the AI Construction Boom Is Getting Harder to Borrow

The AI data center construction boom is facing a tightening credit market. Bond investors are demanding higher discounts and better terms, with recent high-yield bonds consistently selling at a discount. Major banks, including Société Générale, Sumitomo Mitsui, and Mitsubishi, are becoming more cautious about project loans, a shift partly prompted by Oracle invoking force majeure in a New Mexico project. Despite over $55 billion in AI-related bonds issued this year, investor risk appetite has waned. Even deals backed by investment-grade tenants like Meta now require extra compensation, reflecting concerns over construction risks. While the build-out continues, higher financing costs and narrowing bank syndicates are reshaping the market. Lower-rated or complex projects face significantly increased funding difficulty. This pressure is compounded by massive bond issuance from hyperscale tech firms, rising Treasury yields, and a volatile IPO market. For some projects, rising borrowing costs are nearing the critical point where profits become unsustainable.

Hana Bank uses Euroclear's blockchain to issue a $100 million bond: Media

South Korea's Hana Bank has issued a five-year, $100 million digital bond using Euroclear's blockchain-based platform, according to a report by Yonhap. This marks South Korea's first digital bond issuance directly utilizing Euroclear's blockchain infrastructure for foreign currency bonds. The issuance, registration, and settlement of the bond were executed on a distributed ledger network. Reportedly, leveraging this technology streamlined the process, reducing settlement times from the typical three-to-five business days to same-day settlement. The digital bond is also integrated with Euroclear's existing global settlement network, enabling investors to trade it through their standard accounts and trading systems. Euroclear launched its digital securities issuance service in October 2023, settling a €100 million digital bond from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development at that time.

Goldman Sachs Research Report Interpretation: 30-Year Treasury Yield at 5.3%, Bull Market Still on Track

Goldman Sachs U.S. Weekly report analysis notes the 30-year U.S. Treasury yield has reached 5.3%, its highest in nearly two decades, while the 10-year yield nears 5%. The report states rising interest rates pressure equity valuations, but earnings remain the key driver for stocks. The S&P 500 forward P/E has declined from 22x to 19x, though the index remains near record highs. The report outlines several key findings: 1) The equity risk premium has remained stable at around 3% despite the P/E compression. 2) Historically, stocks see initial pressure when rate hikes begin but deliver solid positive returns 12 months later. 3) Equity valuations are more sensitive to long-term interest rates and the speed of rate changes. Recent rapid yield increases have challenged the market. 4) Corporate balance sheet risks appear limited for large caps, with strong interest coverage, though smaller firms are more vulnerable. 5) Sector sensitivity varies, with homebuilders underperforming and financials often outperforming in rising rate environments. Goldman Sachs forecasts S&P 500 EPS of $340 for 2026 and $385 for 2027, with corresponding year-end price targets of 8000 and 8300 points.

Bitcoin spikes toward $80K as US CPI data delivers new 22-year high in bond yields

Bitcoin surged back toward $79,000 following the release of U.S. CPI data for August, which showed a 3.4% annual inflation rate. Core CPI rose 0.3% month-on-month, slightly above expectations. The data increased market bets on a Federal Reserve interest rate hike in September to 85%. After an initial dip, Bitcoin quickly reversed, gaining over 3%, a move mirrored by U.S. equities. However, U.S. bond yields hit a 22-year high, causing volatility. Analysis from QCP Capital warns that rising yields, driven by tighter policy expectations rather than growth, pose a significant headwind for Bitcoin by offering a competing risk-free return. The report suggests Bitcoin may only benefit later, once Treasury debt buyback operations inject more liquidity into markets.

India launches tokenized bond pilot with $107M issued

India's securities regulator (SEBI) and central bank (RBI) have launched a pilot for tokenized corporate bonds. Three companies—REC, Larsen & Toubro, and IIFL—issued a combined 10.25 billion rupees (approx. $107 million) through the new "Demat 2.0" system. This infrastructure uses a distributed ledger operated by statutory depositories and settles payments via the RBI's wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC). The pilot, which exceeded its initial scope, enables same-day fund settlement for issuers (versus a typical 2-3 day delay) through atomic settlement and automates payments via smart contracts. Investors can hold the tokens in existing accounts without new KYC. SEBI notes India is the first to combine native ledger issuance, depository-held ownership, and CBDC settlement within regulated infrastructure, with plans to later expand to secondary trading and retail access.

Arthur Hayes Says Bessent Is Now Repeating All of Yellen's Mistakes

Arthur Hayes claims that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is repeating the mistakes of former Secretary Janet Yellen by relying on Treasury liquidity to manage markets. Hayes argues that while their rhetoric differs, both ultimately inject liquidity to suppress bond yields as government spending continues. He highlights Yellen's policy of issuing short-term Treasury bills, which drained ~$2.4 trillion from the Fed's Reverse Repo facility, effectively releasing cash into markets. This "Activistic Treasury Issuance" boosted assets like Bitcoin and Nasdaq 100, even with high Fed rates. Now, Bessent has announced a $20 billion long-term bond buyback to curb rising yields, but Hayes views this amount as trivial against the $40 trillion debt. He suggests the best outcome for Bitcoin would be a bold, BoJ-style yield cap above 5%. Until then, Hayes advises traders to watch for further liquidity moves, hold crypto positions without leverage, and expect volatility.

U.S. Treasury Steps Up Long-Term Bond Buybacks, Why Are Gold and Bitcoin Rising?

The U.S. Treasury's announcement to double its long-term Treasury bond repurchase program has fueled market fears over potential dollar depreciation, leading to significant rallies in both Bitcoin and gold. Analysts interpret the larger buybacks as a form of easing, which could exacerbate inflation and erode the dollar's purchasing power, driving investors toward perceived hard assets like Bitcoin and gold. Bitcoin saw a sharp surge, further amplified by short-covering and positive regulatory developments. Gold also broke above a key technical level amid dollar weakness. However, the bond market's reaction was muted, with long-term yields remaining elevated. Skepticism persists over whether these repurchases can address the fundamental pressures driving the bond sell-off, especially against a backdrop of soaring U.S. government debt and interest costs.

The U.S. Treasury Department Doubles Treasury Repurchases to Stabilize the Market, But U.S. Stocks Only Edge Up Slightly — Is the Real Signal Hidden in Bitcoin?

The US Treasury significantly boosted its long-term bond repurchase program to curb surging yields, sparking a notable rally in Bitcoin while leaving the stock market with only modest gains. Facing high long-term bond yields that pressured equities, especially tech stocks, the Treasury announced it would double the maximum size of its repurchases for 10- to 30-year bonds. This move, seen as the government stepping in to provide liquidity and stabilize confidence, initially pushed bond yields lower. However, the market reaction was unusual. While liquidity-sensitive Bitcoin surged from around $64,000 toward $70,000, major US stock indices posted only minor gains. Previously high-flying AI-related sectors like semiconductors continued to weaken, largely ignoring the news. The article interprets Bitcoin's sharp rise as the key signal, reflecting its role as a gauge for dollar liquidity. The Treasury's action is seen as injecting fresh money into the system. While stocks remain preoccupied with sector-specific concerns, Bitcoin immediately priced in this loosening of financial conditions. This shift suggests the market's underlying dynamic may be transitioning from a fight for existing capital to an expectation of new inflows, potentially broadening the rally beyond the concentrated AI trade that dominated recent months.
