Pledging ETH Earned a Steady $46 Million, So Why is BitMine Still Deep in the Red?

BitMine reported a significant surge in revenue for Q3 FY2026, driven by its Ethereum staking and validation business which generated $45.7 million. However, the company posted a net loss of $83.6 million, primarily due to a $92.1 million loss from Ethereum derivatives and options trading. This loss, stemming largely from expired contracts and exercised positions, completely offset the gains from staking. To fund its aggressive accumulation of Ethereum, BitMine has heavily relied on equity financing, significantly diluting existing shareholders. In the first nine months of the fiscal year, it issued over 340 million shares to raise approximately $11.87 billion, using most of it to purchase Ethereum. As of May 31, the company held 5.42 million ETH with an average cost of $19.05 billion, resulting in an unrealized loss of roughly $8.2 billion due to market depreciation. While staking provides a stable cash flow that covers core operational costs, the company faces rising expenses from long-term service agreements and high management fees. Additionally, BitMine remains highly dependent on continuous access to capital markets for funding its operations and expansion. The company's long-term viability hinges on its staking income consistently covering these costs and future losses, its ability to secure ongoing equity financing, and a substantial recovery in the price of Ethereum.

JP Morgan Tokenized Fund Surges 250% in TVL in One Month, Institutional Funds Are Treating Ethereum as the Default Underlying Layer

JPMorgan's tokenized money market fund, JLTXX, has seen its on-chain total value locked (TVL) surge approximately 250% in a month, reaching nearly $700 million from an initial $200 million since its launch seven weeks ago. The fund, which invests in short-term U.S. Treasuries and repos, operates exclusively on the public Ethereum mainnet, signaling growing institutional acceptance of Ethereum as a foundational layer for compliant financial products. A key driver of this growth is its inclusion as reserve assets for stablecoins like USDG, meeting requirements under U.S. stablecoin legislation. Simultaneously, despite a significant price decline—ETH has fallen over 50% from its 2025 high—institutional accumulation continues. BitMine Immersion Technologies, led by Tom Lee, purchased an additional $73 million worth of ETH last week, bringing its holdings to roughly 4.8% of Ethereum's circulating supply. The article highlights a divergence: while the tokenization of real-world assets and stablecoin reserves is driving long-term institutional adoption of Ethereum's infrastructure, short-term price action remains pressured by market sentiment and ETF outflows. This suggests that institutional on-chain activity, though a positive fundamental development, may not serve as a reliable signal for near-term price bottoms.

Bitmine Increases Holdings to 5.7 Million ETH, Included in Russell 1000 Index, Tom Lee Says Only One Step Away from '5% Target'

Bitmine Increases Ethereum Holdings, Nears 5% Supply Target and Joins Russell 1000 Bitmine Immersion Technologies (BMNR) acquired an additional 27,084 ETH last week, bringing its total holdings to 5,700,040 ETH, which represents 4.7% of Ethereum's total supply. This puts the company at 94% of its goal to own 5% of ETH's circulating supply. Despite a challenging week where ETH price fell 8% and BMNR's stock dropped 13%, Bitmine continues its accumulation strategy, with Chairman Tom Lee attributing the market weakness to quarter-end "window dressing" by investors. In a significant development, Bitmine was added to the Russell 1000 large-cap index on June 26. Lee expects this inclusion to attract hundreds of institutional investors, as passive funds and ETFs rebalance to match the index. The company's total assets, including crypto, cash, and securities, stand at $9.8 billion. Of its ETH holdings, 4,879,157 are currently staked, generating an estimated annualized revenue of $211 million. Lee projects this could rise to $246 million once all ETH is staked through its MAVAN network. Bitmine remains the world's largest corporate Ethereum treasury and the second-largest overall corporate crypto treasury, behind Strategy's substantial Bitcoin holdings. Lee reaffirmed the company's commitment to steady buying throughout 2026, expressing belief that the crypto market is still in the early stages of a spring cycle. At the time of writing, ETH was trading around $1,565, while BMNR stock was near $13.56, down over 90% from its 52-week high.
