Introduzione

After attracting a record $824.4 million, the U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs saw a net outflow of $24.29 million on September 8th. Outflows were primarily from the Grayscale product, while Fidelity continued to see inflows. The current situation appears more like a brief pause rather than a full reversal of institutional demand.

Record Inflows Followed by Single-Day Withdrawal

U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs recorded a net outflow of $24.29 million on September 8. This outflow came after five consecutive days of strong inflows totaling $824.41 million in late August, sparking discussions on whether institutional demand has peaked.

From August 24 to 28, these funds achieved their strongest five-day inflow record since launch. The following week still saw net inflows of $218.4 million, indicating that the previous demand for Ethereum ETFs was not a one-time spike.

The latest day's outflows were mainly concentrated in Grayscale's product. Meanwhile, Fidelity's FETH still attracted $9.89 million, and BlackRock's ETHA saw no fund withdrawals.

Flow Structure Matters More Than Total Amount

If all major products simultaneously experience outflows, it typically signals a broad weakening of institutional risk appetite. However, this time, the funds mainly flowed out from some higher-fee products, while lower-fee products still saw new inflows, possibly reflecting investors switching between different ETFs.

Therefore, the single-day outflow of $24.29 million is relatively limited compared to the cumulative inflows exceeding $10 billion over the previous two weeks. It appears more like a pause after a period of rapid inflows and is not yet sufficient to confirm a trend reversal.

The market still needs to monitor the subsequent performance of BlackRock and Fidelity. A sustained outflow from these two institutional products would provide a stronger signal of weakening institutional demand.

Price Action and Fund Flows Need Simultaneous Confirmation

ETH remains within a key price zone even as fund flows cool down. If ETF demand recovers, it will continue to provide support for the spot market; if the price significantly breaks below recent support levels while ETHA and FETH begin to see consecutive outflows, risks would increase notably.

The Ethereum ETF has just experienced its strongest week of inflows since launch. One day of withdrawal is not enough to erase this context. The upcoming days' disaggregated product data will be more telling about whether institutional funds are truly shifting direction than a single total outflow figure.
