Bitcoin $BTC$65,250.07, the leading cryptocurrency by market value, is back above $65,000, with prices up about 1.2% over 24 hours. Ether (ETH) has risen by over 3% to nearly $1,950 alongside 1% to 2% gains in other top 10 token, including solana (SOL) and $XRP ($XRP).

Futures tied to WTI gapped lower on Monday, trading around 5% lower at $85 as of this writing, while those linked to Nasdaq and S&P 500 traded half a percent higher. Currency markets also showed risk-on trends, with the Aussie dollar and euro gaining against the U.S. dollar.The United States and Iran paused military strikes against each other for a second consecutive day, creating room for a diplomatic breakthrough. The war, which began in late February, entered a fragile ceasefire in the second quarter, but it quickly unraveled.

Iran reportedly said that it would continue to halt airstrikes as long as the U.S. did the same, marking a tenous start of what appears to be yet another peace process.

Bitcoin began as peer-to-peer electronic cash, but the market gave it a different job. Over the past decade, Bitcoin has become crypto’s benchmark investment asset: something to accumulate, custody, borrow against, and measure against. Stablecoins, meanwhile, became the industry’s practical payment rail.

That split made sense. Bitcoin’s volatility, confirmation times, and tax complexity made it awkward for everyday spending, while stablecoins offered the thing merchants and users actually needed: a familiar unit of account that could move quickly across digital rails. Bitcoin became the asset people did not want to spend. Stablecoins became the money they could.

The gap is becoming more visible as stablecoins move deeper into mainstream payment infrastructure. Visa said its stablecoin settlement pilot now supports nine blockchains and had reached a $7 billion annualized settlement run rate as of March 2026. That does not mean stablecoins have solved every payments problem, but it does show which part of crypto is being absorbed most quickly into commercial finance.

Bitcoin is now facing the opposite question. It does not need to prove that it can be held. It needs to prove that it can move in ways that create useful economic activity. More specifically, it raises a question for the companies that secure the network: can miners evolve from passive validators into active participants in Bitcoin’s payment economy?

Decentralized cloud storage provider Storj Labs has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company said it plans to keep its network running while restructuring legacy liabilities and exploring an ownership pathway for STORJ tokenholders.

On Sunday, Storj said it filed the voluntary case in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of West Virginia. The company said ordinary operations and customer services would continue during the process, subject to court oversight, while its parent company, Inveniam, would continue to support the business.

The restructuring could become an unusual test of whether utility-token holders can participate in the ownership of a company emerging from bankruptcy.

In an open letter to its community, Storj said its liabilities largely predate its current strategy and are too substantial to resolve through business growth alone. It said the network continues to operate normally and its token’s utility is unchanged.

STORJ showed no significant immediate price reaction following the announcement, trading around $0.072 at the time of writing, according to CoinGecko.

Storj explores equity pathway for tokenholders

Storj said management intends to propose a mechanism allowing tokenholders to participate in the reorganized company’s equity.

However, Storj has not disclosed how tokenholder eligibility would be determined, whether participation would involve a token snapshot or lockup, or how much equity might be allocated. The company acknowledged that any plan must follow bankruptcy priorities and receive court approval.

Cointelegraph reached out to Storj for comment but did not receive a response before publication.
